This game got to Stanley. You could tell by his interview after the game. He was hurting as he knew the outcome was largely on his shoulders.

I would have to bet his confidence level is at an all-time low as a starter. Will he start overthinking out there?

We will see how well this young man is able to flush this last game and move on. I sure hope he comes out and plays some of the best football of his life these next games.

Go Hawks!!!

I agree with you, but if a change wasn't made at PSU, don't think it will happen at Purdue. Unless someone grows a set before Saturday.

That is my fear. Still stuck in our old ways. But I have seen some changes over the last few years that tells me he might do it.

I thought Stanley snapped out of his funk the last drive. Then a huge mental lapse on his part happened. IMO that has the ability to "mind screw" him for an extended period of time.

However on the other hand, if he is as good as his physical tools (as one example) indicate he can be, then he will snap out of it and be fine.

If he struggles out of the gate I honestly think you see a change. I guarantee the staff has a very good read on his mental state already and will have a plan in place.

Maybe it is just as simple of cutting back Stanley's sleep from nine hours to eight. ;)

here is what needs to happen: work on getting some receivers open. not just tight ends. not just easley. work on offensive line giving him some time. work on other options like throwing it away or time out or tuck and run, not throwing the quick INT. work on those things, get good, and it will be fine.

On the flip side he should be in a very good mood today. He learned Saturday that he has job security second only to the HC.

It's damn near November, those should have already been worked on. We need well oiled machines out there in November. Which is why last weeks poor performance was such a shock/disappointment.

It's weeks like this where KOK's experience and grey hair might come in handy.

did you guys just start watching kf this year? I don't care if a nuclear bomb blows Stanley's arms off and his legs: he will start. and play the entire game.
Isn't Ferentz the same coach who replaced a multi year starter with his backup months before the next season started?

Must be spending too much time working on "trick" plays!

Good point. He was on a seat that was warming quickly when that happened. Notice how the next time he had a chance to renegotiate that contract he removed the possibility of being in that position ever again. Btw, CJB had actually won the job on the field earlier in the season but Rudock got the call anyway.

We are at a point where we need to win at all costs.

Iowa should ALWAYS be at that point, which is why Mansell should have started the second half @ PSU. Most athletes know when they don't have it. Nate shouldn't have been surprised if the halftime conversation had gone something like this: "Nate, we're going with Mansell to start the second half and see how it goes. It'll give Penn State a new look, and it'll give you a chance to relax and get a fresh look at things. We plan on getting you back in there, but we want to give you a chance to regroup."

Having been in games where I was playing poorly, I silently welcomed the chance to come out and get a fresh look at things.

The team should always come before the individual...even if it's the QB.

Yea I really hope the team, especially Stan has a short memory on this one and can pick back up for Purdue. We have to be ready to go against them. They are coming off a tough loss and should be amped up at home. Offense has to crawl out of its shell for the game and play without being scared or timid. Of course, Stanley is the key here. We really need things to click Saturday to get back on track.

I agree. dunno why it's not been worked on or maybe it has and this team took a step back. time to adjust some things or lose more games.

Mansell isn't going to play much after he had an int in a game a few weeks ago.

Different situation.

An off season move is one thing.

Pulling a QB starter in season appears to be difficult for him, for some reason. If he does it, which has been rare, then it is to go with the new guy the rest of the year. Seems like an all or nothing decision with him.

I don't think he has ever done it during the season barring injury

Really? Stanley has had inexplicable INTs every game this year, and TWO on Saturday, so throwing INTs hasn't put Stanley on the bench. Why would throwing one keep Mansell there?

I totally agree. He was nervous as hell for this game. He does best with no expectations it seems like...

He’s already overthinking out there. The best thing he can do is just relax and go play, trust his eyes. When he does that, he’s great. When he’s pressing? Well we’ve seen that side too.

I’ve said this over and over again.. But Nate does better in rhythm & that Maryland game thru him off.. Iowa should have started fragile Nate off with some tempo to get his rhythm & confidence going.. Iowa needs to go faster on offense, it may help Nate move from one play to the next without getting into his head so much..

There were times that they were very open. He had some bad reads and some terrible passes, even on simple ones. He was off. WAY OFF. He either had something weighing on him, or was in his own head. Either way, he has not played well the past 2 games, and this last one was abysmal.

Well, this will define the real Nate Stanley.

Are you actually saying they don't work on these things? Good God. I freaking hate posters after a loss.

Nate is so much better then what we saw Saturday that I'd have to think that some circumstance that we are unaware of is in play. The Nate Stanley we saw Saturday was not the Nate Stanley we are used to. This Saturday will be interesting,
