MY Lawd! 78 yr. old Bill Snyder signs 5 year extension at K-State.

Grandpa Bill is a class act. Doubt he finishes out the full five, but looks good to recruits.

He looks every bit of his 78 years outwardly. Must have a great desire to support that institution to keep fueling him.
It's hard to see him going more than a couple of seasons.

He is Kansas State Football. Before him they were just like Kansas, after he left they were just like Kansas. Very underrated coach, makes you wonder what he could have done with more resources at his disposal. Kansas State is even harder to recruit to than Iowa.

When I think of Kansas State football ,I think of Snyder ,and that dumb looking Wildcat mascot with human arms and hands.

His success is remarkable. 65% winning percentage at KSU. 9 bowl wins. His teams have finished in the polls 13 times, including six times in the top-10. 9 seasons of 10 or more wins. He's a legend. And like you said, he did it with minimal resources. He took what he learned from Hayden and reached even greater heights.

He has had alot more success in some ways that KF. Is it his offensive acumen? I'm impressed with his win total and the remote area he is able to attract guys to. Legend is a great word for him.

I really would have liked to have seen him take over for Hayden in early '90s when it became evident that Hayden was over the hill. not to impugn our own legendary coach, but gee, his last 8 years were not that great. I have always wished that history had been different and that either he or Barry Alvarez had taken over in the ealry '90s. think where we would be today.

The K St fans I know aren’t too happy about this.

Screw them. Who gave them a friggin' program? I hate when fans turn around and bite the hand that not only feeds them, but made food possible in the first place. KSU was 23-85-3 in the ten seasons that proceeded Snyder. Snyder was 77-39-1 in his first ten seasons. Talk about a turnaround. Tell the KSU fans you know that I said to kindly STFU. lol

I see similarities to the KF/Barta situation here. Did they NEED to extend his contract to keep him there? Probably not. Was it the right thing to do based on the service he provided the school and the state? Probably.

You're the guy at the Academy Awards who flashes the "Time's Up!" card when the Eastwoods, Redfords and Newmans of the world are retiring live.

The top college football coach over the last 40 years. He is a miracle worker.

It helps in recruiting where kids are probably being told "He's 78 and not going to be there in two years"

People can hold two thoughts at the same time. I know many level-headed KSU fans and they realize they have arguably the best college FB coach in the last 50-60 years in America. I can make a good argument that what he has done at KSU is as impressive or more so than what Saban has done at Alabama or what Bowden did at Florida State. K-State was another bad decade of football from being relegated to the MAC or the Mountain West.

With that said. the way he's handling the end of his career is more about trying to ensure his son is the next coach. The program and administration is in a tough spot. You don't blame the AD for not wanting to make a public announcement that his son will be the next coach when the son has never coached anywhere but K-State and hasn't been a coordinator of either the offense or defense. And Snyder feels like he's earned the right to dictate who the next coach is. So you have the situation of today.

Beating the likes of South Dakota and the University of Texas San Antonio cannot be easy at any age. Why is Snyder given a pass and Kirk not?

You don’t research much do you? They play the likes of Mississippi st vandy stanford mizzou zona wash st colorado. We play the clowns over and over and freakin over

As referenced already, this is in part due to Bill wanting to choose his successor. And Kansas State can't not give the man who built their program into what it is today a contract extension. Bill wants his son to get the job. There's others more qualified like Jim Leavitt or perhaps even Bret Bielema that may be interested in the job. Leavitt even has an "out" in his contract at Oregon for the KSU head job.

If Gene Taylor had given in and guaranteed Bill's son would be the next head coach, I am positive Bill would have retired instead.

Central Arkansas. Charlotte. Florida Atlantic. Missouri State. Stephen F Austin. University Texas El Paso. North Dakota State (which they lost BTW). University of Massachusetts. North Texas. Eastern Kentucky. Kent State. Oh, and Kansas every year.

Bill is gonna retire next June or June 2020, a la Stoops. Attempt to force KSU to hire his kid.

I'm a Snyder fan Harb, so don't take this the wrong way. I really don't make a direct correlation to him being more successful then KF, simply because they don't play the same schedule. Bills done extremely well given his situation, but I'm not sure he would have one upped Kirk if he would have been coaching in the BIG. Just a much stronger conference top to bottom annually then the 12, IMHO of course. Also for those that gripe about Iowa's non con schedule, you'd really not be happy with who KSU plays most seasons. Still, he's been the right guy at KSU to make them relevant, no doubt, and thats saying something. If I give a nod to anyone of coach Fry's tree as having raised above what KF has done, it would be Alvarez, for obvious reasons.
