My thoughts with Gilman.

Senior losing a heartbreaking semifinal in OT. Makes you pretty depressed as a hawk fan but I wanna shed some good light. 3x All American with 3 varsity years, 4x Midlands champ, big ten champ, etc etc.. Thomas you've done things most collegiate wrestlers never even get close too. Fight back and get 3rd like the warrior you are. With that being said, I am absolutely disgusted with all the haters on social media celebrating this loss. I can only pray they experience some hurt like that very soon.

Okay he won Midlands the last fourteen years and I defy any true HawkeyeReport fan to dispute it. He corrected an incorrect statement, get a clue.
Right. So he won the Midlands the last 14 years. Does that mean he won every year since he was 8 years old? Maybe you need to get a clue pal...

That was almost a more stupid reply than your first post. When you don't understand that you're obviously being mocked, you might want to shut it down.
No need, as your weak attempt at mocking is pathetic. This was all about supporting TG, a great Hawk and you think its cool to turn into an asshole just like the nitpicker. Why not say, tough loss TG and thanks for being a Hawk. Good luck.

Screw all you Gilman haters. I feel awful for the kid. He has had a hell of a season/career and for whatever reason, he froze up in the semis tonight. While I'm sure it's not what he envisions, I hope he bounces back tomorrow and ends his career on a postive note.

I always found Thomas' interviews entertaining. He's an introspective kid who isn't afraid to speak his mind. Sure, I cringed a few times at certain comments in interviews, but on the whole, he has been a delightful guy and a great competitor. Iowa haters love to demonize him, but as often happens, they're vilifying a characature of the man.

Although Thomas most certainly wishes he were competing tomorrow night, he has, indeed, had an extremely successful career regardless of what happens tomorrow. Hoping he finishes strong and kills it in freestyle after graduation.

Thomas is not PC. He is straight forward, speaks honesty, has confidence and is a tireless worker, all of which should serve him well as he moves into his future life.

Gilman went into what I call his semifinal/final turtle shell. We have seen it against NATO even when he won. His best asset is his pace and pressure and there wasn't a lot of that tonight.

Gilman has been my fav Hawk since he has been here and I think he will do good things in freestyle...this is a bummer but you get what you earn.

No doubt a bummer for him too, as I am certain he did not try to lose the match. Sometimes you just don't win.

Unfortunately, Gilman has gone throughout his career putting entirely too much pressure on himself. He's talked himself into corners his whole career and its bitten him at some of the most important times causing him to wrestle way too tight.

He's a wonderful young man that will be very successful in life and be a great father and husband. He will not be defined by his career at Iowa although it's a damn good thing to be defined on.

"Thanks for the unbelievable dedication to the Iowa program Thomas" should be all people are saying about the young man.

Were.you.referring.to.his.comparision.between.Gilman/Clark.vs.McD/Ramos?....the."we're.better.quote."
I.cringed--like.WDMD.often.likes.to.do.when.I.heard.that.quote.
I.agree.Gilman.is.better.suited.to.freestyle.and.will.have.a.shot.in.that.arena,though.tonight.he.seemed.to.forget.that.fact.

No matter what anyone says that was on Gilman. I haven't seen him wrestle like that all year. Thomas didn't take a real shot all match. Tom and Terry don't preach ride to win.

I'm with you completely. In the other matches he was working hard and trying to make things happen. Against Cruz it looked like he was just trying to survive once he got riding time. That's the difference between our guys and PSU's guys...they don't hold back...it's 100 percent full throttle no matter what. I hate it for Gilman; he was the best guy, but stepped away from his game plan and paid the price. Damn, Seth looked really good in his semi...looked like he was wrestling a much lesser opponent. That said, I think Clark will pull through for the victory tomorrow. And have I told you guys how much I despise PSU...F**K!!! It pisses me off that our guys don't go for the jugular 100 percent of the time. And I'm speaking to Gilman's efforts in the semi...just no excuse for altering the way he's wrestled all year.

Gobblin, you said it much better than I did. Couldn't agree more.

Absolutely a great Hawk. We should all thank him for all he has done for the team. He has no reason to be bashed on the Hawk site. Shit happens, and we have to move on. I am very thankful that Tomas was a Hawkeye, he has given us many great matches so lets support him rather than bash him, for me I hurt for him.

This, lock the damn thread.

Unlock the thread :)

You got it right. Dan Dennis is always going to haunt this coaching staff. Rather than letting it be an anomaly, they continue to coach our guys to "be smart", which IMO is putting our guys in a shell. Let these go loose, and let the chips fall. Gilman took one shot, and tried to go for a 1-0? That's not TG.

If you're wanting a us vs the world mentality, you have to fight and be willing to accept possible collateral damage. You can be proud of your effort. Dan Dennis can be proud of his effort. Gilman is going to kick himself the rest of his life, because he won't be proud of last night's performance.

This thread is sick. Thomas came to Iowa with dreams of being an NCAA Champ, worked his ass off for almost 5 years, won over 100 matches and has come up short. He gave 100% of what he tried to do in the match and certainly did not try to lose. Obviously not his best effort, but it was all he had in that particilar match. Someone wins and someone loses. He is sick that he lost and his dream since he was 5 years old will not be fulled after thousands of hours training. Get over piling on this fine Hawkeye.

You need to learn the difference between piling on and stating facts. You can span five years of my posts on the wrestling board with not one mention of criticism. He's a good young man who didn't win Midlands four times, but you like to cluster things together that don't belong in the criticism column.

Easy man, since you did not criticize, then it's not about you.

I'm really going to miss seeing the double thumbs up from Gilman in a Hawkeye singlet. But I have a good feeling we'll see it more when he's wearing HWC and USA gear. Thanks for being a great Hawkeye Thomas Gilman!!!

I guess this all can stop. Gilman put a stamp on his career with that 3rd place match. He went out with a bang:mad:
