Nate Stanley Lost This Game

Yes, he had a horrendous game. Probably the worst of his career...?

But that turnover was on Brian. 3 minutes left, with 1st & goal at the 3 yardline, and you pass the ball!?! Wth?!?

Burn the clock. Two run plays, if no score, you play action.... If 4th and a foot, you spread & run. Touchdown
Hey moron, he checked to that throw

Good lord people, Stanley had a bad game, which QB's do from time to time. (See Clayton Thorsen last week) However, I would say he has twice the maturity as some of the pricks here calling him out.

Why would the coaches leave him in? I get bad days. I also get choking.

Have I, even once in my life done something that stupid?

Well yes, many times. And thank God it was not televised nationally. :p

Stanley threw six TD passes two games ago. He picked the wrong time to have the worst game of his career. Will be interesting to see how he finishes out the season.

Stanley can beat the cupcakes but when it comes to these high pressure games, he sucks. He isn’t a good leader and plays panicked and scared. Disappointed for the defense because Stanley basically was -21 points tonight.

Nate has to develop poise. Play call or not, time out or not, it’s first and goal at the 4. We have 3 more plays to get 7 or 3. It was not an all or nothing down. He felt pressure and chucked it but he’s got to be tougher at 6-4 & 250 lbs to get happy feet on first down and chuck it.

The same on the third and 1 great call by Brian and he overthrew TJ for the easiest of TD passes ever. There’s another 7 lost. That was also about poise too.

Again, Nate’s the guy but man was he bad today and cost us when we needed him most.

Rarely do you hear profound things from Charlie Weis, but he made a great point on the 2 most important things it takes to be a good NFL QB: 1) Leader, 2) Accuracy. Both things you can’t really coach up, and all of the greats have both.

^fvck everyone saying he sucks. He was bad and likely cost us this game, but what do we have in the wings? No idea. We lost to a better team, period. This year could still be special. Chill the fvck out.

This post is just bullcrap. Sorry joker this is just terrible.

It excuses Stanley, who hasn't been good outside of a handful of games and still has major problems just making "middle school throws." And it goes beyond today, he's had issue nearly every game with making simple throws and dumb mistakes. But, for whatever reason when it comes to Stanley one good game against a bad team and we're just supposed to forget all his problems.

And we don't know what is in the wings. It might be better, it might not. But, I know what I have in Stanley and its not good enough.

Your post somehow paints PSU as a better team, when they aren't.

And a lot of special just went out the window because of some things that shouldn't happen by a player with 16 starts under his belt.

People can be, and should be, angry.

You know, Stanley did come around the fourth qtr, and I was starting to think midway through the third that maybe they should make a change. I think they should have went up tempo a couple series because in the past it seems Stanley can get into a rythm when they do that. That INT when were inside the 5, I really don't understand why we didn't just call a time out when the play clock was running down.

Completely agree, the loss is on Stanley.
-1st half failed to take advantage of a large disparity in field position.
-Terrible interception that was nearly a pick 6. Resulted in a td
-Overthrows Hockenson wide open for a sure touchdown, no points on the drive.
-Consistently missed open receivers all day
-Inexplicably dumb interception on the 3 yard line.

Not sure I’ve seen a more overrated quarterback. How he’s listed as the 3rd best QB in the draft is beyond me, this guy isn’t even the 3rd best in the Big Ten. Huge letdown today on what could’ve been a special season.

Ol' Doodle is generally loathe to blame one guy for a loss in the ultimate team game. But in this case, Nate was SOOOO bad--so incontovertibly, undeniably, exceptionally, horrifically, individually, unforcedly awful--that you simply cannot ignore it and pretend this was another classic "team loss". He was abysmally horrible in virtually every possible way, including showing a COMPLETE lack of command and leadership when we had the ball down near the goal lime late in the 4th. Call timeout. Who cares. The game/season/Big Ten Championship/CFP was on the line. You saw confusion with your team. CALL TIMEOUT!!!!!!!!!!

Beyond the physical failures (overthrows, underthrows, etc.), that complete lack of football IQ and leadership was egregious...no, make that inexcusable...from a 2-year starter.

Nate's physical and mental ineffectiveness was BY FAR the primary cause of this defeat. Spin it any way you like....but the statistical and 'eyeball test' evidence supporting this conclusion is overwhelming.

Basically....Nate is our John Navarre.

I thought so until his total meltdown.

Hey, it's a game.

Why in the world would anybody ever want to be a backup QB on this team? Our backup could be another Mahomes and we’d never find out.

It is quite possible Nate does not have that it factor. He does seem to get pretty tight when the lights shine brightest and I still do not get the continued horrible decisions. He makes so many inexplicable passes and makes so many inexplicable decisions. I mean usually those diminish with experience but there is just something missing. I said it factor but maybe just a lack of feel for the game or something. This year is just so disappointing as we had no business losing to either Wisconsin or PSU. Both games we should have been up by at least 2 scores with the ball and momentum.

Coaches lost that game as well...4th and 10 end of the first half? ...Stanley’s hurried interception? The Coach should have called time out. PSU gave the game away with 2 game changing turnovers and 2 safeties. Iowa just gave it back.

We lost to a better team? Nonsense. If Stanley wasn’t utter horsecrap we would have had a huge early lead and kept rolling. You saying that completely downplays how awesome the special teams and defense was today

There is more to consider than just Stan's performance today. There is a larger trend of Iowa teams being unable to muster any offense against legit competition on the road or in bowl games. Stan's leadership is second to that of the staff, mainly KF.
I'm not out to bash KF, but things have changed since the early days of going on the road and getting huge wins. Some of it may have to do wiyh overall talent, the rest I believe has to do with the lack of the necessary approach, attitude/mentality and preparation from the top. Players must execute, and having leadership that exudes confidence no matter the stage helps that.

Stanley has been marginal at best all year. No touch on any throws. Mind boggling decision making. This guy doesn't look like a 2nd year starter in his 3rd year in the program.

I agree Nate did not handle that well at all. Nor the majority of the game.

But we needed to burn clock and only had 3 yards to go. RUN

We lost to a better team????? In no way were they better.

Stanley definitely made some bad throws that cost us points in a close game. But our offense of line play was atrocious! The Penn State defensive front was consistently in our backfield dirtying the pocket. We couldn't get coverage called correctly. And credit Penn State defensive backs who started out in man and then jumped to zone , and vice versa. They tried to confuse us and did so at every point
