Does Nate Stanley go pro early or does he stay for his senior season? I don't think there is any doubt he should stay for his senior season and clean up some of these unneeded turnovers he has had this season. But its a weak QB class this year and next years is loaded with talent so I wonder if he will leave early to get into a better position to be drafted higher.

He is getting some early love from McShay, but I don't see him headed to the pros. I also wouldn't say this is a weak quarterback class. There could be as many as 5 QBs drafted in the 1st round.

I think we are just fine without James Daniels. He was very talented, yes, but Render has been really great.
But, yes on Jackson. He was fantastic. And I think we will really miss him this Saturday.... hope I'm wrong though.

I, too, am nervous about our secondary this week. They haven't faced a QB the level of McSquirrly yet and are frankly still pretty green. Hopefully the line pounds him into dust in the first few series and he's throwing scared the rest of the game.

I think he will be and should be staying don't get me wrong. I think he has a lot to clean up before going to the NFL. However, with this being the weaker draft class of the 2 he might go early.

Definitely a possibility If he finishes strong. Right now I would put the odds at around 20/80 but a flurry of TDs with very few turnovers leading to a 11-1 season and a good performance in the B10 title game would make him a top 4-5 QB prospect IMO, a 2nd RD pick, maybe late 1st RD. He would have to seriously consider it. Still a longshot but an outside chance depending upon how the season plays out. Here's hoping that he has a difficult decision to make when the season ends.

This is the correct answer. After a blockbuster QB class in the NFL 2018 Draft, he'd be a fool to not at least test the waters.

Would not be shocked with Fant & Hock.. Nate however, I would be very shocked if he left early. Not that he could not get better in the pros because he does have pro talent..

Of course Iowa would be better with Daniels and Jackson. Yes, Render has been great but he could be great at RG while Daniels was playing center. It always hurts to lose guys early, but can't begrudge guys leaving with first or second round grades. But when guys leave it opens up opportunities for others. Brents and Moss are getting early playing time due to their own skill, injuries to Ojemudia and Hankins, and the void left by Jackson.

I view this whole issue of leaving early for the draft as having one key factor above others: the consensus grade of NFL personnel evaluators.
If a player grades out as a consensus 2nd round or above, submit for the draft. If not, probably better to stay in school.
It seems unlikely that Stanley would be a consensus 2nd round or better selection.

I think he dips his toe in, but stays after he gets a feel for where he grades out. Risk of injury is not the same for a QB as it is for players that play more punishing positions.

There’s a lot to like about Nate Stanley. Obviously he has things to work on, but the raw talent, size, arm strength,etc......is all there.

Means absolutely nothing. Stanely is on the higher end of mediocre QBs Iowa has had in the Ferentz era.

Stares down receivers as if letting the defense know who he's going to pass to
Happy feet
Incredibly poor long ball

Stanley would not last in the NFL. If Tate or Stanzi couldn't, there's no way in hell Stanley could.

Yes, actually it does mean something.

And your ridiculous over-the-top hyperbole lets everyone know not to take you seriously.

>Calls critical analysis hyperbole

I knew there were some low IQ posters on here, but wow that may take the cake

That's not critical analysis. He can get better, for sure, but he's clearly good. You make it sound as though we're dealing with the Greg Davis version of James Vandenberg here, which is just absurd.

Do I want Stanley to be successful? Absolutely. Is he better than last year? I think so.

I like it when broadcasters compare him to Big Ben, but it’s so clear Stanley lacks Ben’s ability to work with a broken play, or fool defenders by looking one way and then passing somewhere else completely the next.

Stanley’s interceptions are a great example, the last like, what, 2 or 3 have been just gimmies to the defense when they could’ve been easily thrown away or just a tuck and run? I just don’t see him surviving professionally where he is right now.

Work with a broken play? Indiana to Easley? Ohio State with the guy draped on his leg?

As a true junior he is better than last year. He has improved on the things scouts have pointed out...completion % and mobility in the pocket. Saying he has happy feet isn't critical analysis, it's just wrong. Right now he has the 11th best QBR in the country. He has 1 1/2+ seasons to improve on his progressions, his accuracy and his decision making. About as sure as an NFL prospect as there is.

Interceptions are not a big deal. Out of all of the QBs take. I’m the first round last year Baker was the only one who didn’t 10 interceptions last year. Also the only starting QBs in the Ferentz era who haven’t thrown 10 interceptions in a season are brad banks and James Vandenberg.

I think McShay values potential to a high degree and ranks Nate highly because of Nate's potential. There are several things Nate can improve upon as others have pointed out. Staying at Iowa gives him a great opportunity to continue to improve his game in a pro-style offense whereas I think he loses this opportunity if he goes pro because I don't see him starting right away in the NFL. So, I think it's in his best interest to stay.

I feel confident that Stan will be staying for his senior year, A. Nelson will be staying and Hock is not going anywhere after this year. If Stan takes stride going into next year the way he has this year, he could contend for the Heisman. We will be loaded with talent next year and new players will be emerging.

That's exactly why I think he's going to have an opportunity,... His most recent interceptions have basically been perfectly thrown passes to the opposition,.. ie: absolute total brain farts,... eliminate that and he's good to go

He needs to stay. The only player that is a virtual lock to leave early at this point is Fant. I'll be honest, I'm not sure how that works but I'm not even sure he's the best tight end on the team right now but all the experts seem to think he will be going to the NFL. I'm sure it has to do with projections and stuff. Of course, this is why determining NFL talent is not my job.

Pounded into the mud very likely!

p well if you're smart I think he stays he needs some developing still. For quarterbacks the money's going to be there

I would guess the pro scouts would tell Nate he is close to being NFL ready but might go higher in the draft if he stayed in school for another year.
