   Iowa's offense was absolutely putrid on Saturday. The Hawkeyes finished with 166 total yards of offense, had two turnovers and finished with just 57 yards rushing. Both of these teams also had more punts combined (21) than there were first downs (16).
   The hero of Saturday's game was definitely Iowa punter Tory Taylor, who punted 10 times and averaged 47.9 yards per punt. 10 of his punts were downed inside South Dakota State's 20-yardline, too.
   Can't wait to see how many Iowa touchdowns we get to see this season with the Hawkeyes. I hope we get at least one more.”

This is great….I will enjoy all the ISU talking this week and then the tears when Phil and the defense completely cut them down and we win like 9-0 on a pick six and a safety.

Edit: this is in no way an endorsement of this pitiful offense and our horrid QB play….but I truly believe this defense is elite and maybe one of the better Hawkeye units in the past 20 years….and I intend to enjoy it!

Why because he can take the heat for one more year keeping his son and KF not a fan of playing out west with new big 10 alignment. This defense is elite. It could be a top 3 defense. But even the best defense in the country gives up a field goal or two a game.

It would have been even "better" if the final score had been 6-3 with Iowa getting to the 6 on 3 safeties. Making it even clearer, if it isn't already clear enough, that the offense is the proverbial anchor when it comes to the team.

Yesterday was pitiful and embarrassing. If our punter was just awesome yesterday and not ****ing awesome like he was, we probably lose. How sad is that? The oline and qb play were terrible last year and even worse yesterday. Another year of wasting an incredible defense and really good special teams.

There are so many things wrong with our offense that its overwhelming to imagine any meaningful improvements:

1. Recruiting: Just the QB position alone is a terrible strategy to target pure pocket passers, who cannot run, are not slippery and in the case of Petras, are not accurate. A running QB who is a decent passer at least could likely make some big plays, avoid sacks and manage the running and screen game at parody.

2. Vanilla Play Calling: I don't think this needs much explanation, but a few more wrinkles and mis-directions could manufacture some offense in an otherwise desert of ineptitude.

3. Kirk Prides Iowa on Better Execution: Well, where do we go from here, we just squeaked by an FCS program. How can our O Line be this bad?

4. The mediocre running game becomes a self fulfilling prophecy when you throw 1 pass per game over 20 yards. The defense loads the box and cheats "up" on almost every play. Good Luck with that.

Agree. The o-line has me more concerned than anything else actually.

SDST getting pressure consistently with a 4 man rush.
There was a sequence I think late in the third or early in 4th. We’re sitting 2nd 2 and they run leshon and he was lucky to get 1, and then the previously reliable QB sneak gets 1 with arguably a favorable spot to barely get a first down. That simply shouldn’t be the case against a FCS team. Couldn’t get a push hat on hat.

It’s always taken the o-line time to gel with the zone blocking scheme but the problems are deeper than that.

For the year, does Iowa’s offsense score more points total OR do opponents score more points off turnovers? And maybe we should take away points iowa scores that our defense sets up with a turnover too (so like a fumble recovery on the opponent 10 yard line that leads to a FG doesn’t count as our offense generating points).
