I’d say it’s good news.
Me too! I’d say this could be outstanding news, though it sure would be nice if they could wrap this up and tell us who did what to whom so we can get back to talking wrestling and planning our wrestling assault at NCAAs…I’d say it’s good news.
1) these are not laws. Most of the athletes caught in this did nothing illegal. They broke NCAA rules. This is so dumb. Students could just as well have inside information as much as the student athletes. What about family and friends? What about all the overpaid AD and NCAA bureaucrats? Context is important. Activity that influences outcomes or bets based solely on inside info should be punished severely. But it should also be investigated and proven as such. Seems like a case where the laws haven’t kept up with deregulation.
And all these holier then thou fans from other schools taking potshots should take notice of those survey stats for college students. 40% said they made bets on their own university. That is insane. This isn’t your parents world anymore where only a few gamble. It’s gone totally main stream.
To the contrary, the NCAA rule clearly states ..."or athletics employees"......
2) NCAA rules also cover all coaches, ADs, and NCAA employees.
3) NCAA rules obviously cannot cover non-athlete students.
Article is from the end of June.
Would this apply to a large donor to the program? I guess the question is how far down is the rabbit hole?To the contrary, the NCAA rule clearly states ..."or athletics employees"...
If you are directly affiliated with, or associated with an institution's athletic program (in any manner) and choose to engage in gambling activities you are placing yourself at great risk. Gambling is a Highwire Act.
employee.Would this apply to a large donor to the program? I guess the question is how far down is the rabbit hole?
If he or she get their paycheck from the University, then yes.employee.
So like, a tutor to the athletics program would be under this prohibition.
If you have a relationship (any) with the university's athletic program and have any concern regarding your responsibilities, accountability, or culpability regarding gambling, you would be well advised, "do not".Would this apply to a large donor to the program? I guess the question is how far down is the rabbit hole?
This is old news. Does not change Iowa wrestlers punishments.
