NCAA announces qualifier allocations for 2015 DI Wrestling Championships

so, the big 12 tourney isn't a qualifier this year, does this mean that they are solely at the mercy of the at-large selection committee?...

Wow, I hope.

Is there a mistake at 174? No Mike Evans.

According to the RPI, Iowa has five #1 ranked wrestlers. I bet you only get three if you guess b4 you look.

I took it as mr. evans is SO good that wrestling everyone else below his ability tanked his RPI...right?...

I thought I read that Evans had enough matches after last weekend. I'm confused. Can I get a refresher course?

17 D1 matches, so not sure on Evans
WrestleStat has him 24-1 with 7 non D1 and 1 D1 forfeit that doesn't count, so that should be 17

Using your numbers..........24-1 minus 7 and1 forfeit looks like 24-8=16.......... so 16-1

That would be 17 total matches, but after looking at Iowa site, I think I counted an early Cornell match as D1 Cornell not D3 Cornell, so that would leave him 15-1 and 1 match short of an RPI. But he gets berth anyway with Coaches poll and win %age, so doesn't make a difference

Can someone post the allocations? I am at work and the US Government will not let me access the NCAA! Go figure I can get on a message board but not the NCAA site.

Thanks!

So judging solely on intermat's rankings, Kelly would have to beat one Big Ten guy ranked ahead of him, and he owns a win over Perrotti.

However, he also needs to beat those ranked below him. Can't afford a mental lapse

I'm curious about this as well.

If you add up the bids for each weight it looks like they are saving spots precisely for Big 12 at-larges...

Cautiously optimistic Kelly makes to the ncaa.

With 8 spots for B1G, gotta figure the first 3 are head and shoulders above the rest:

Martinez
Ness
Green

After that you have 4 guys Kelly could hang with and possibly beat:

Murphy
Welch
Demas
Alton

Then there is still #8 spot, and for that his only other ranked opponent is

Perotti

Additional unranked opponents inclued Md, IN, MSU

HA! I got four!

Missed Burak.

The qualifier allocation is the only thing you can take away from that link. Those RPI rankings are WACK

Yep. But you'll notice there are more than 4 at-large bids held back at each weight class. Looks like they built what would have been the Big 12's allocations into the at-large pool.

Iowa gets all 10 in including Kelly, even if he fumbles at Big Ten. He has been in top 15 all season long and so would get a bid.

RPI is nothing more than a straight number calculation.

Win pct * Opponents win pct * Opponents opponents win Pct.

You must also have 17 matches against D1 opponents to get ranked also.

Sounds like Delgado & Hunter Stieber never got spots for the Big 10 tourney, any other notables that will probably be guaranteed a spot at Nationals

Would Kelly still have to finish 9th (one off the automatic qualifier #) to be considered for the at large? Kind remember that. If he finished 10th or worse in the BT tourney, would he be done?

RPI is a rating, not a ranking. It has nothing to do with "how good" someone is. I probably should have this on cut-and-paste around this time every year. No disrespect intended, but that's the same comment that's come up in the last 7 years.

If Delgado and Steiber don't place high enough at Big Tens, I could see both not receiving a wilcard. Past performance isn't part of the criteria for getting a wildcard and their season's resumes are bad. Delgado has no quality wins and stieber is 1-2.

Well, I guess after 7 years of not cutting and pasting...............we shouldn't expect you to get it right next year either.

So Massa is moved to 174? How is that going to play out. Even for Big 10 seeding at 174? I assume it is true, but no ranking or RPI, so hard to tell
