Yep. Sold his stuff weeks before NIL, gave all proceeds to charity and we have programs like LSU, Arizona, UNC, etc. having absolutely no punishment for literally getting caught cheating, haha.Well, that's dumb
In addition to the missed games, Cockburn will repay the amount generated from selling apparel by making a donation to a charity of his choice. It wasn’t immediately clear how much that would be.Yep. This isn’t even a current rule where the NCAA would want to make a statement and dissuade future players from doing the same … regardless of one’s opinions of Kofi/Illinois, this is just purely punitive and comes off as spiteful. NCAA is a joke.
From what I read, he had already donated. Either way, that is a small/non-essential component of my view that the NCAA is hypocritical trash. In addition to the missed games, Cockburn will repay the amount generated from selling apparel by making a donation to a charity of his choice. The donation was conditional to his reinstatement..... he didn't do it for charity.
It's still not legal for active players to sell team gear, so yes....it is a current rule.Yep. Sold his stuff weeks before NIL, gave all proceeds to charity and we have programs like LSU, Arizona, UNC, etc. having absolutely no punishment for literally getting caught cheating, haha.

If he sold team/university gear with trademarks, without contracting with the University, then he is at fault. He can sell is name and likeness, he cannot sell the university without its consent. Just like any other vendor. From what I read, he had already donated. Either way, that is a small/non-essential component of my view that the NCAA is hypocritical trash.
This. The NCAA is like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest......Illinois will appeal and he will get a game or two knocked off the penalty.
I hate to agree with an Illini fan, but he's absolutely right about the NCAA being a ridiculous organization willing to look the other way when the bluebloods get caught red-handed for far more egregious behavior than selling your jersey. Oh, but let those schools self police themselves and they will come up with a punishment that's strict (sic), but fair. Such BS!
So did this all take place back when he was considering jumping to the league? From what I read, he had already donated. Either way, that is a small/non-essential component of my view that the NCAA is hypocritical trash.
More like a man with no legs, making them the proper height to do what they do bestThis. The NCAA is like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest......![]()
The race of the stupidist between ncaa and US govt is too close to callIt's still not legal for active players to sell team gear, so yes....it is a current rule.
Should have been a game or two, but 3 isn't too bad considering it's the NCAA.
yup, it seems someone must have had an agenda - much dirtier things going on a UK, AZ, Louisville, etc.Illinois will appeal and he will get a game or two knocked off the penalty.
