NCAA sanctions Louisville basketball

4 years probation and Pitino is prohibited from coaching the first 5 games next year.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...ve-games-ncaa-sanctions-louisville/399271001/

'Louisville must also vacate records in which three student-athletes involved competed while ineligible from December 2010 and July 2014 and will have four scholarships reduced during its probationary period.'

thereby placing its NC at risk.
Pitino will be coaching the non conference games it appears but will be prohibited from coaching Louisville's first five conference games. If he truly was unaware it's certainly a shame that coaches have to not only monitor and baby sit their players but their coaches as well. Can't trust anyone any more. What's amazing to me is that surely not all of the projected recruits participated or even if they did that guys being guys someone didn't spill the beans themselves.

They are a big time money making program. They should have fined the hell out of them to get their attention. I would bet they lower the number of games Pitino is suspended and vacated games really mean nothing to the fans. How about vacating the NCAA Championship they won?

Pitino is just another "legend" who has been proven to cheat.

I could be wrong but I read the NCAA sanctions to possibly have that effect. Louisville AD is not happy with the ruling and has filed an immediate appeal.

Pitino is shameless and sanctimonious. If he was unaware it was because he instructed his staff to follow a "don't ask, don't tell" policy with respect to recruiting visits.

So, if Louisville loses it's championship, do the players have to give back anything they got? I believe that the school will be forced to take down the championship banner and give the trophy back.

It is disgusting. The mega-coaches are paid the huge bucks because they know everything about their programs and control every aspect of it. The idea that Pitino knew nothing about what was happening on recruiting trips (where an assistant of his was paying thousands of dollars for "services") defies belief. CEO's of large companies who are operating outside the law aren't exempt from losing their jobs or even going to jail if they aren't aware of widespread corruption in the company. And Pitino is not running an enterprise with thousands of employees across the globe, he's running a basketball program with 3 full-time assistants and 5-7 additional support staff and 13 scholarship players. For him to not know of what goes on during recruiting visits is either a lie, incompetence, or willful ignorance. I'm going with the lie option.

Worst part is that Pitino the scumbag he is goes off yesterday and how he lost all faith in the NCAA. This is worse than what Pearl did at Tennessee and he got a show clause penalty and couldn't coach for few years cause he least was man enough to admit his lie. Pitino should be thanking his lucky stars he only got 5 games and keep his mouth shut. Plus we've seen Pitino's true moral compass with the whole affair he had with a lady in back of restaurant and pay off he made to her later on.

With this whole ordeal I can not think of a University that has 2 coaches more sleazy than Pitino and Bobby Petrino for football at Louisville.

As for giving back anything, I do not think one can give back the virginity lost during the recruitment/escort/stripper activities. However, it is Louisville and it is in Kentucky. Senator Mitch can sort it all out.

I'm with you Dodger. There is no way on earth that Pitino didn't sanction, and fund this endeavor. There was a lot of coverage on this topic in KC, because the Grad Assistant who ran this deal, ended up at UMKC, and was forced to resign when this went public. Anyone who buys the story that this GA payed for these parties, and would have had the balls to run this talent show without Slick Rick's knowledge has lost too many brain cells. Without question their getting off easy. By the way, are we ever going to see some sanctions on the University of Nefarious Cheaters?

I've been wondering about that myself.

I think Pitino personally got off way too easy. A year off from coaching would have been more appropriate IMO. Since we seem to be recruiting for some recruits recently, loss of a scholarship for a couple of years would have also been nice.
