Anyone know a good place to get tickets? I've tried the Iowa ticket office and I can't through them. I've also tried some other smaller schools ticket offices and have not had any luck. Prices on stubhub and other websites are very high. I've been to the last 2 NCAA's and haven't had trouble before. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I go almost every year and always scalp tickets at the door. Usually get great seats.

Wait. The NCAA Ticket exhange opens up February 1st, then the market should be more open

my guess is there will be plenty. of tickets for sale outside the area in philly I was one of one hundred with tickets above my head
the only place I saw with out lots of extras was Omaha

Madison Square Garden Always has a very active scalping scene out front. A few tips from a frequent MSG attendee, print out a seating chart for Wrestling, know what section the Iowa fans are designated for, if that's important, and never accept the first offer. Walk away , and they will follow and lower the price. They are the guys walking around saying 'anyone selling'. Counterfeits are occasional, so that's a small risk.
Also, Madison Sq Garden sits atop Penn St Railroad/and Amtrak, with 2 subway lines as well, so it's easy to get to train/subway from almost anywhere.

Tickets have been on sale since last March, here is the official site :

For those that like Greek Food, eg Gyros & Soulaki (and I'm guessing not to many in Iowa are, lol), one of the best in NYC is right across the street on 7th Ave, and it's very low priced, informal. For Steak lovers, Keene's Chophouse is a short walk from the Garden. Keenes is NOT cheap.

Madison Sq Garden was refurbished a few years ago, has great viewing sight lines, and also has an awesome selection of beers, liquor, and food. Not cheap however, figure $10 for premium draft beers, 16 oz., and $15 for decent liquor, usually double pour.

Hotels in Manhatten , NOT Cheap either, check VRBO to maybe rent an apartment or priceline to find a decent price (under $200 night).

I'll check back to answer other questions for NYC newbies'

Thanks for the info guys. I would rather have tickets in my hand before we get there. We have 6 of us going and would like to sit next to each other. I'm guessing it would be hard to scalp 6 together. I'll wait til the NCAA ticket exchange opens. How does that work? Do I just go to their website and order off of there? If all else fails we will scalp. I just don't want to travel all the way there and not get good seats, or pay a lot by scalping.

Yesterday I received an email from the NCAA regarding ticket purchases. And I don't want to go into details because many of these posters won't believe me, but I have the opportunity for tickets. If you are serious, please email (bfhpride@yahoo.com) and I would be more than happy to better assist you. I believe the tickets are $285 for the six-session package.

Do you know where the seats are at? Thanks for the info

It's just like stubhub. Sellers post their tickets for sale and go from there.

Keep in mind that a lot of schools won't fill their allotment either, so those tickets will go back on sale.

I was really stressing not having tickets, not anymore, I'll figure it out in the next month or so

I'm now to posting here, but not new to the board or Iowa Wrestling, etc.

I have questions about how to get into NYC. I've been to the last 14 NCAA championships, but never into NYC. We're probably going to drive from Michigan into the best place to get on a train.

Can you help with that? We don't have anything lined up yet, but would like to start formulating our plan. Is there a subway station, or something like that that we can park at outside the city (4 days) and ride into the MSG area where we'll find a hotel, and watch, etc.)

I appreciate your help.

If you're just going to be there for 4 days, I would just park in the city. You can find parking for about $35 a day. Cheaper if you do enough digging.

I recommend airbnb for looking for a place stay. I got a studio apartment for just me, 7 nights for $950. I wouldn't ever spend the $200+/night that some of these places want.

You can always find hotels in Long Island City/Staten Island or any of the outer boroughs for cheaper, many of them include free parking. Then you're 45 minute commute to MSG

Check lastminutetravel.com for hotels...I snagged a 2 bed family suite at 2 blocks from MSG for $179/night plus tax...the hotel I got is no longer available but there are plenty of other good ones...my advice would be to book asap...NCAA March Madness is also in town at Brooklyn for the weekend and it's St.Pattys Weekend...

I'm just throwing this out there in case someone is looking for a hotel. Our group attending this year has lost two guys, therefore if someone is still looking for a hotel and has the ability to get a hold of two tickets for my buddy and I then you are welcome to stay with us in our hotel that is one block from MSG. If there is a difference in the tickets/hotel price then we'll gladly settle up. The room rate is $229 per night with a four night minimum (we have Wed.-Sat.), so with the extra fees they add on it will probably come out to close to the ticket prices.

The hotel is :
Hotel is Affinia Manhattan

New York NY 10001

So basically, you have tickets but no hotel and we have a hotel but no tickets...lets make a deal and enjoy some Hawkeye Wrestling!

If you don't want/need a car you can take Amtrak from South Bend or Cleveland right to Penn Station which is next door to MSG.

Interesting thought, although the timing I'm finding seems difficult. It really is tricky for us, as we're usually light travelers and drive through the night to arrive on the morning of the tournament. That still seems like it's possible, but I just don't know where to drive to. NYC is a complete mystery to us. I appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks,
PM

Lots of early options from Philadelphia.

Drive to Jersey (Secaucus/Union City maybe) and stay there. Take the train across the water right into Penn Station/MSG.

Or drive to Philly and take the train up - takes about 90 minutes.

Or I'm seeing cheap flights (under $200 on Spirit) from DTW to NYC.

That's something that I'm thinking about. I know nothing about neighborhoods and what places are like Chicago's South side . . . I'd prefer to avoid those places.

I'm guessing that like you mention Seacaucus/Union City might be a decent place?

Thanks all for the ideas. We'll eventually find a place to drive to and stay, and the next step is to secure a pair of tickets. hehe.

Thanks,
Phill

As a lifelong resident of Northern NJ, and College Wrestling fan, don't stay in Secaucus or Union City. If you are spending the money for the wrestling, and travel, you might as well do it up right and stay in Manhatten. If you aren't familiar with the buses and subways your head will spin. Stay in either Mid town Manhatten or Lower Manhatten (Chelsea, Greenwich Village, West Village , East Village,
SOHO, TRIBECA etc), either at a hotel or check out VRBO for apt rentals. You'll thank me later. Later you can ask me for bar and restaurant recommendations.
