I know Iowa is a good program to want to emulate (Bret Beilema and Mark Dantonio know this) but for Nebby fan to make this statement says a lot about the state of their program.

If he's saying he would rather have a win over Iowa than a top ten finish, he has not turned into an Iowa State fan; he has turned into a moron (if he wasn't already a moron). I honestly do not know a single Cyclone fan who would take that deal, and I know a LOT of Cyclone fans.

I'd rather take a top 10 finish than beating Alabama every year. This is just stupid

I know a lot of Cyclone fans that have said 'I don't care if we lose every other game as long as we beat Iowa.' Probably because they typically do lose pretty much every other game. Or after a 2-10 campaign, 'at least we beat Iowa.'

That's only because the odds of them finishing top 10 are just slightly higher than odds of winning the Powerball.

I have heard that, but they don't mean it literally. And "At least we beat Iowa" is a perfectly reasonable thing to say. It means the season could have been worse, plain and simple. It doesn't mean the season was successful or even acceptable.

Speaking only for myself, if you told me ISU was going to go 1-11 and I could pick the win, I'd probably pick UNI. If you said 2-10, I'd pick UNI and SUI. If you said ISU could be 2-10 with wins over the in-state schools, or 3-9 with losses to the in-state schools, I'd take the latter.

No Iowa State fan has ever said that and seriously meant it

I never read the Nebraska boards until they joined the BIG, but I cannot imagine they mentioned ISU much since it was a pretty one sided series. Since joining the BIG, Nebby is 3-2 against Iowa, and could have very easily been 2-3. So I am sure the fact that its been a dogfight when they take the field with Iowa, as opposed to most of the encounters with the Cyclones plays a lot into that gentlemans thinking. I attended Iowa State back in the Jim Walden days, and went to two Iowa State home games. Nebraska and Oklahoma. Let me just say, neither game was pretty for the Cyclones, and should have been categorized as mercy killings.

CyCity would disagree with you and take Iowa and K-State. ISU's biggest rivals. Actually he'd take K-State and any other conference games because as he stated any of those wins means more than the Iowa game.

I do. A lot of them actually. Neb & ISU need to play so we can figure out who's lil bro to Iowa & who's littlest bro to Iowa.

Yeah I know a lot of Hawkeye fans who would rather beat ISU than have a top 10 finish. They say having to hear about it from ISU fans all year isn't worth it

How would Hawkeye fans hear about isu having a top ten finish when it has never happened?

I have individually talked to every Hawk fan in the world, and not a single one has ever said this. You sir, just got owned!

Hatefull is really just being realistic. The bug eaters have tradition but that is history.

True, I would agree. Of course, since a Top 10 finish has yet to be on the menu at Iowa State, beating Iowa seems to be the best consolation prize.

And, in fairness, I think the reason for that is Iowa State has had success head-to-head against Iowa. So it becomes a more realistic proposition as opposed to say...beating Oklahoma.

You're an idiot. As painful as the ISU loss in 02' I think almost every Iowa fan would take that great season with a loss to the clones over years like 2006, 08', 10' or 2013 when we beat ISU and finished outside top 20 or unranked.

The Oklahoma thing is truly bizarre. The domination is much, much worse than by, say, Nebraska, let alone Iowa. Moreover, damned few of the losses have been close. And while OU is never bad, the Sooners have had some mediocre teams over the years. It doesn't seem to matter.

For those who don't realize how bad it's been.....Iowa State has played Oklahoma pretty much every year since 1928, and has won 6 games. Since 1961, ISU has one win and one tie. The last time ISU beat OU in Ames was 1960.

It's kind of like Iowa playing out west. They rarely perform well, whether it's the Rose Bowl or non-conference games against like Arizona, Arizona St., etc. They just seem to suck for whatever reason.

My sportsbook has Oklahoma favored by 18 at ISU this year, FWIW.

It is a series like Iowa and Ohio State. Both teams are worse than the opponent but even in years where Iowa is closer to OSU, wins don't come around very often.

It's not like Ohio State and Iowa. You guys have beaten them in Iowa City since the Eisenhower administration.

Posted this in another thread, figured some of you might be interested...

In the last 15 years:

Nebraska has given up:

70 points or more 3 times!
(70pts Texas Tech 2004, 76pts Kansas 2007, 70pts Wisky 2012)
60 points to 69pts 4 times. (62pts Colorado 2001, 65pts Colorado 2007, 62pts Oklahoma 2008, 63pts Ohio State 2012)
50 points to 59pts 3 times. (52pts Missouri 2008, 59pts Wisky 2014, 55pts Purdue 2015)

The Almighty Blackshirts!

Iowa has given up:

70 points or more zero times.
60 points to 69pts zero times.
50 points to 59pts one time.
(51pts Minnesota 2014)

Well, technically 2004 was the last Iowa win over Ohio State in Kinnick, but yeah, Ohio State has been one team Iowa has struggled with--yes, obviously because Ohio State is great--but Iowa has managed to beat a lot of conference opponents with some regularity over the years. Just never Ohio State.

I think back to the 1990 Iowa Rose Bowl season. I still remember vividly the Ohio State game at Kinnick that year. Iowa is up in the 4th quarter. Ohio State throws a desperation heave into the end zone from like midfield. Instead of batting the ball down in the end zone, Iowa intercepts it and takes over at the 20. They punt and give it right back to Ohio State who goes down and scores.

While there have been plenty of blowouts, so many Iowa losses to Ohio State were near misses like that. Some teams just have your number.

Eisenhower was president in 2004? Either that or LC has a bad memory or doesn't know his presidents too well.
Iowa State didn't play Oklahoma in 2004. Either iahawkeyes17 is living in a parallel universe or he didn't read the post to which he replied.:D

If you check, you will see I was referring to the fact that ISU has not beaten OU in Ames since Ike was president, while the Hawks have beaten tOSU in Iowa City more recently than that, thus the comparison of the two series is incorrect.
