Nebraska shot lights out to end that game. I don't think I have ever seen a team shoot that well from the three point line with two minutes to go. We had defenders hands in their faces. This wasn't like what we've seen from our half court defense the last few games. We did almost everything we needed to do down the stretch that we needed to do. We hit the free throws we needed to hit. You rarely ever, ever see a team lose that hits there free throws down the stretch. Unfortunately, and it's hard to admit because this loss stings horrifically, but Nebraska won that game more than we lost it.
I will admit I think Connor played poorly. He gets in the lane a lot but he turns around to pass back outside. If he would continue driving to the basket instead of stopping he would be more effective. He would draw more fouls which would go good with are post players getting to the line.
I thought Tyler Cooks effort and willingness to compete the last few games has been poor. I don't have a lot of respect for guys that don't care that much or compete out on the court. You can do that on the bench. But I'm not going to use him like whipping boy just because Nebraska shot lights out. He showed good effort to me. I saw him get down in a stance in man to man three or four times against wing players and played very good defense. Unfortunately I think that's why he got in foul trouble. The more aggressive you are in man to man the more foul prone you are. Maybe that's why he isn't as aggressive on defense because he doesn't want to get in foul trouble.
I won't blame Fran for this loss. We played well for most of the game and we came out ready. We hit our free throws in the clutch, etc. I will blame him for his suspension the last two games. Being a douche to a ref after a game is over basically over one or two calls is silly. When you lose your emotions and don't have overall perspective bad things happen. The team could have used him on the sidelines, because our assistant coaching staff was non existent.
Just because Nebraska is thin doesn't mean there players aren't better than ours. Roby, Palmer, and Watson are just as good as anybody we have. Let's not act like we lost to Northwestern from the 1980s. They were a lock tournament team until they lost one solid player. That must mean they have some players.
