Iowa is playing well ,coaches are doing great, fun team to watch but....

Starters are being kept in way to long offense and defense..

Quite frankly, our entire offense should have been pulled going into 4th quarter today .

This has occurred several times in last couple games .

I reckon I remember my first concern about limited impact ideas.

With D1 conditioning this is a non issue and should not even be a concern and fwiw, defense only played 20 minutes today.

Your title is a double negative so actually it's a positive!

I can imagine what the topics would have been had our second teamers played, well... like second teamers and allowed MD a quick score or two in the 4th. Many of the geniuses here would have posted “Kirk needs to stay on the Gas” relentlessly for the next week.

With the way our D rotates players, they backups get a ton of reps, just not as a whole unit. So I was ok with leaving the guys out there to go for the shutout. Plus they only played 20 minutes as mentioned.

The offense did a great thing by getting first team reps with both backup qbs in the game. We play our backup WRs, RBs, and TEs plenty in a regular rotation. OL and QB are really the only positions that don’t get a ton of rotation. OL backups have had some pt this year already, so it was time for the QBs.

How can it happen “several” times the last couple games? There is only one 4th quarter per game to leave them in too long for correct? It could only happen twice. I’ll add another negative. The coaching staff did not come out prepared yesterday! It was a sunny day and they forgot sunglasses!

I could not disagree more with the OP. As many on here know, I have been a pretty vocal critic of Kirk and his staff in the past. However, I don't think anyone could criticize this staff for what they are doing this year. They are having a splendid year. The team is getting better each week. What more could any rational person want?

More passing vs Wisconsin to get the W instead of trying to run the ball down their throat inside the 10. Twice, Stanley had Fant isolated on a much smaller db left side and he didn’t throw it to him. This is why I think the Fant family is so upset, you had the opportunity to use Noah in those situations and you didn’t.

Same as yesterday with Stanley, inside the 10, he had Easely left and three guys to the right, Fant, Hock, and Smith. He only looked left to Easeley on a very hard angle to make the throw, incomplete. Isolation play yes, but why not put a 6’5” guy on that side one on one to go up and get it? Coaches need to utilitize their athletes in those situations better if they want to win out and go to the B1G Championship game and win it.

The whole point is when you have the game won, you do everything you can to minimize negative things happening.

There is no need to have your QB in when your ahead by 23 points with a quarter remaining . The game is over. You have a very difficult 2 game road trip coming up that will define your season. Put in your 2nd, 3rd team get them some repetitions ...

Handing off to your starting running backs to drain the clock is not only boring for the fans but potentially dangerous . Why rush freak injurys to tired players let them rest enjoy homecoming watching their teammates.

Much more fun to see new players see what they can do, love to see Mansell in for more than clean up minutes.

I take it then you would rather burn Geil’s redshirt than hand off to Young?

That is on Stanley. He just doesn't see the field very well. Stares down receivers way too much. Average QB at best.

I much rather have Mansell throw the ball and did I say Geil? Is that the only running back we have NOT.., I much rather even hand off to our FB if we run the ball. Point is you do not need your best players in there with s 23 point lead ... Fant, Hockenson , Smith, Marsette the game was over plenty of juniors and seniors could get some playoff time

Well one FB is already injured but I guess you feel they are disposable. And no you did not say Geil, I did. I guess you want to put a player in the backfield that doesn’t even take many if any snaps in prep week. Let me lay out a little scenario. Up 3 scores with 4th quarter to play. You put in the back up qb and a RB who have never worked together. They have a little miscommunication on the handoff and fumble is returned for TD. Now you’re only up 2 scores with nearly a full quarter of FB to play. Let me tell you something I am confident of. There are only 4 RBs (barring multiple injuries) on this team that will take a handoff only up 3 scores. And it was the right move not to put Geil in.

Fumble returned for a TD... if I am not mistaken we haven't had a fumble all season from any of our RB. And do you really think a team with 39 plays all game and zero points who only managed one drive all day past the 50 are going to score 23 points in 10 minutes .

No maybe you would just rather have your only tested QB or one of our top 3 backs get injured for nothing

If you don't want one of the 3 rb running, then who do you want? They need to get as much extra experience as possible....

You want to bring in mansell to see how well he can hand the ball of? Ok

LOL. Please tell me who this RB on the roster you want to hand the ball to. I believe Samson is injured so if you’re going to flapping your gums senselessly then tell us who should have been given the ball in the 4th qtr. and if I’m not mistaken, no one was injured so zip it.

I don't give a rats ass who they have back there running maybe just the FB
Maybe the RB are in there to just block..maybe they throw it every down but it makes no sense to have your starting QB and running backs o there when you have the game won.

For god sakes they spent 10 minutes of the 4th quarter with their first team offense in there running up the middle ... stupid and boring .

Mansell got what one series two series ? Ridiculous

Have you considered this when you speak about 'starters' playing too long? On offense 4 receivers played (at least), 4 TE's played (it could be 5 as I think Cook got in on the last series but, I wasn't paying attention), at least 6 offensive linemen played as I know that Ferguson started but Banwart came in at some point. Don't know who played on the line the last series. And last but not least 3 running backs played. They play this many guys every game, how many fricken people do you want to play? It's not like some other teams, or some of our past teams where only 11 or 12 guys play the whole game. I think that's why everyone was happy to see Manzel get some meaningful reps with the first team, because at every other position, we have backups that have starting experience or play extensively. I don't know if Banwart has gotten game reps at center. If he hasn't he probably should.
