Work to do (déjà vu...).

Utah State at #14. Losing to them on a neutral court with injuries was in no way a bad loss. But we obviously need to win some games in the next two weeks.
It appears to me right now we will have more chances to make a statement in conference than we had last year. Also let's root for Wazzou to keep that W in Q2.

It wasn’t a bad loss but it could have been a nice win come tournament time if we’re on the bubble. Rest of the non conference stinks besides ISU.

That's the issue.
"Not a bad loss" isn't enough for a team with the trash noncon schedule that Iowa plays. If the not very good washington state team turns out to be their best noncon win they will have a lot of work to do in conference to make the NCAA field.

Utah State and ISU are hardly trash. My God, the non conference expectations on here are unreal.

It is almost like some people have never followed college basketball non conference schedules before. Before all is said and done we will have played 4 top 75 NET ranked teams in our non conference with some cupcakes mixed in as everyone does. We also have played Soith Dakota who is 162 and Southern who is 168 both will flirt with being Q3 at the end of the year. All in all that is pretty good.

91st, 14th in B1G.

It's a weak schedule for a team that purportedly has 3 all big ten talents on the roster. No polishing this turd.

Again, too many 300+ teams.
That is my beef. That is the problem. Year after year.
Same with almost every other team it is the nature of the game due to the 20 game conference schedule zero reason not to have a few of these. Yes it sucks but no one is gonna have all games be in the top 100.

"A few"? Of course. Everyone understands it.

You play an exhibition and "a few" tune up games, and then prepare your team to compete in the conference and the NCAA.

Sometimes you can't schedule every type of game you'd like to play. That's just reality.

But the schedule this year -- and frankly, many past years -- does not seem designed to prepare this team. It seems designed to get easy Ws.

This isn't 1995. In the age of analytics, a record like this fools exactly no one. It also fails to prepare teams, or excite the people who buy tickets, and merch, and tune into the game.

We can do better.

Good thing you brought up analytics because using NET Iowa did an amazing job getting 3 neutral site games where two of them will be home games so in that sense of today's world they did amazing. Also add in South Dakota and Southern almost being Q3 this schedule is only bad in name and perception only instead of reality. Yes it sucks outside of ISU we have no major conference opponent at carver but the whole of the non conference once it is complete will be very competitive with the other teams we will be matched up with in march situations.

Again, the analytics and SOS will be quite solid because of the Big schedule. We play 8 road games against quad 1 teams. That’s insanely impressive. Borrowed this from someone else:

Iowa's remaining schedule as of 12/2 NET ranks:
Q1: 12 (4 home/8 away)
Q2: 7 (5 home/1 away/1 neutral)
Q3: 3 (2 home/1 away)
Q4: 2 (home)

As long as we stay top 75 in NET it counts as a Q1 game for them and speaking of bad non conference schedules I suggest some of you see who they played last year out of conference ...
I guess I asked or stated the wrong thing. Sorry about that. What I wanted to know was who is hurt worse losing the clone/ Hawk basketball game. Iowa losing at home or ISU losing on the road to the Hawks

Probably neutral as it would be a Q1 game for both teams. As long as Iowa stays in the top 75 the perception stays the same it is a Q1 road game those are tough to win so ISU won't get dinged for it.

In that case it would go along way to getting Hawks at least on the bubble with a win but still rather take down both Northwestern and Michigan if we can only get 2 of 3.

Both the Michigan and ISU games will be Q1 by the end of the year so those can be interchangeable. Also road wins carry more weight and getting two wins in the B10 would be big for this teams confidence.

Right now, 5 of the 8 games played are considered quad 4. Gotta believe the SOS will start to help the NET ranking through conference play, provided they win a few tough games. Right now, the weak SOS isn't helping.

The non conference SOS is still in progress as ISU and Utah are still left to be counted and those are probably are 1st and 3rd best opponents. Most teams have cupcakes only left as they played in the MTEs with other HM teams where we did not. The B10 will help carry this team as we have plenty of good chances left.

^^^^Buys turd polish in bulk. Gets wholesale rate.

j/k it's a fair point about our peers having non-con cupcakes remaining.
