I recently joined Netflix about 3 months ago I and have been paying a monthly fee and nothing else extra. Did I miss a notice because now they charge for each movie you watch. Doesn't matter if they are new, old, classic or whatever. Thanks in advance.

Because tonight thought I would watch a movie and that 's when I discovered they will charge me for each movie I watch and also charge $8.49 per month.
Did I miss a notice?

where did you discover they are charging you to watch a movie? How much? WHat movie? Are you attempting to sign up for a DVD plan as well as streaming? Where is 8.49 coming from isn't it still 7.99 for streaming?

I just clicked on a random movie and was told of no extra charges. Inglorious Basterds playing right now at no extra charge on my end.

Well I just signed on to NETFLIX and picked Sherlock from BBC and there are two options on the screen : Preview and Buy HD for $6.99. I must be doing something wrong. I tunes charged me $ 8.49 for the service last month. I have not paid for a movie yet just a monthly fee.

I watch Netflix every night during the week and have never been charged more than the monthly fee.

Grandma, is that you?

Well is your "email machine" still working?

I'd email Netflix and iTunes and then send your grandson a card with a check for $8.

I watch Netflix a lot and have never been charged per movie. Watched "Nebraska" a couple of nights ago, no mention of a charge.

This poster is dumb and another faker because Netflix is easy to use and he keeps asking about it even though people told him hello dummy are you trying not to listen or are you fake?

This is simple- If you don't know the different between Netflix and iTunes, you should not stream movie/TV. If you're posting stupid crap just to show you can post stupid crap, that might explain why this board was pay-to-post.

If somebody has to setup your TV, you should not have a TV.

I don't get this mindset. Did you have somebody build your house? Install your stove? Install your HVAC? Water Heater? Build your car? Clearly there are many things that you simply have other people set things up for you. Now, I agree that the OP is a blinding idiot, if one is using a message board, one should be able to tell the difference between Netflix and Itunes, but I don't get the disdain here.

You're creating a parallel between building a house/installing HVAV to a setting up a TV? The TV most 10 years old can do, yet most 10 years olds can't do the other.

I set up and had to show my parents how to use the smart features of a blue ray player. for my mom the thought of multiple inputs into a TV was crazy so had to show her how to use the input button to go from DTV to the blue ray player. Then the different options on the blue ray for renting a movie, or using netflix.
They get around on the internet just fine, but the new TV/streaming technology is simply something they dont' use often enough, or really have much interest in outside of the dead of winter, for them to operate it like a pro.

...and here comes Patrick Bateman to tell everyone they should have less disdain for people. Despite your disdain for living things that you believe are beneath you, particularly women.

What a ridiculous attack, you don't know my opinions on women. You are getting close to a ban-able offense here, and are clearly stalking.

This. My parents navigate the menu, pick their movies just fine, but if the internet goes down they certainly need help, if it had a firmware issue they would definitely need help, if it told them they needed to pay per movie they would know that something is wrong...and ask for help.

But my parents aren't posting on a message board, if they can do that, they can figure out the difference between netflix and itunes.

How can Netflix's make any money by only charging nine dollars a month?

I'd bet that the majority of what is watched on Netflix comes from a small percentage of power users. And that a large percentage of subscribers go weeks or months without even using it.

Does that really benefit the Netflix business model much? They still have to spend money to acquire the library for streaming. They still have to employee a number of employees regardless of how many are actually watching vs. subscribing and not watching.

It's all about volume. Like any business I'm sure they have a break even point and need to keep subscribers above that level. The list of fixed expenses is going to a lot greater for a Netflix than the variable. Unless server costs go up dramatically if more people are watching simultaneously.

That and having to pay the extortion, yes extortion, from the Comcast's/Time Warners out there. But I agree with you, how they make money is simple. They spend X on licensing and need Y subscriptions, with Y being larger than X. Not really that difficult. Also why they don't have any "new" movies.
