CHICAGO - No. 3 Arizona State went to the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships this week and celebrated four wrestlers reaching the podium. Brandon Courtney, Kyle Parco, Julian Chlebove, & Cohlton Schultz all finished top-8, with Courtney and Parco earning silver at 125 and 149, respectively...

CHICAGO - No. 3 Arizona State went to the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships this week and celebrated four wrestlers reaching the podium. Brandon Courtney, Kyle Parco, Julian Chlebove, & Cohlton Schultz all finished top-8, with Courtney and Parco earning silver at 125 and 149, respectively. Chlebove finished fourth at 133, and Schultz picked up third at the heavyweight division. The Sun Devils' lineup won 12 matches with bonus points, recording six falls, four major decisions and two tech fall victories.

Courtney made his season debut this week after missing the first five events of the year due to injury. In five matches he outscored the competition 18-8 along and had a pin. He was bested by Wisconsin's Eric Barnett in the title match. Chlebove was the star at 133 this week after Michael McGee was forced to pull out of competition. Chlebove recorded two tech falls and two wins by decision in seven matches. His two losses both came against Illinois' Lucas Byrd.

Parco, the 1 seed at 149, recorded a pair of major decisions to open his weekend but was ultimately bested by Northwestern's Yahya Thomas in the championship bout. Schultz recorded three pins throughout the tournament, but a quarterfinal upset from Pittsburgh's Dayton Pitzer had him fighting in the consolation bracket. In the bronze medal bout against Harvard's Yaraslau Slavikouski, Schultz earned a pin just 13 seconds into the second period.

The Sun Devils have a short turnaround before they're back on the mat. ASU heads to Austin, Texas, to wrestle Cornell in the FloWrestling ASU vs. Cornell Showcase on January 4. The dual will be broadcast live on FloWrestling starting at 6:00 p.m. AZ. The Maroon and Gold conclude their winter trip January 8 in Ames, Iowa with a dual against Iowa State (Noon AZ, ESPN+).
