From Chad Leistikow of HawkCentral.com:

A notable item from yesterday's game (vs Iowa State) regarding the NCAA's new red-shirt rule:

After playing in Iowa's opener, LB Dillon Doyle, DT Tyler Linderbaum, RB Henry Geil & WR Nico Ragaini DNP. Wonder if this is a sign they're being managed for 4 games of participation, in a perfect scenario?

Probably give them experience when the game is in hand. Iowa didn't take a decent lead until 4 minutes left in the game. No point in giving them playing time when the game wasn't secured until 2 minutes left. Save it for the next blowout.

Will they play against UNI then? I say NO...but I could argue it flat or round.

Hopefully, yes.
Any time there's a chance to play them without burning eligibility, do it. Injuries can happen and if they are needed (like Drew Ott in 2012), it is better if they've already spent a little time in the fire. If Iowa's fortunate enough to have garbage time later in the season, coaches can decide if they want to preserve a year.

Let's make sure the game gets out of hand so we can see... I am not nervous about losing but this is the ultimate trap game...

In state team.
FCS team- guys may not be mentally checked in.
Wisconsin at home the following week.
Possible Gameday??? (Doubt it but you never know.)

Yeah it depends. If they really want to keep the year of eligibility, they might hold them out an wait until the inevitable injuries happen later in the year. I think the coaches are trying to figure out how to use this rule right now, just like the rest of us. Difference is our opinion doesn't matter.

UNI will be destroyed by our lines. That is the most I can remember man-handling ISU’s OL in a long time.

Using Iowa's participation report, here's your updated 4 game redshirt rule tracker through two games:

Also, UNI's secondary isn't a tremendously experienced group. Thus, I think that Iowa's passing game might find a little life against the Panthers. On the flip side, UNI has some experience among their front 7 ... so they'll probably play tough against the run, at least initially.

If it was me I'd hold back on any that have played 1 or 2 games so far and see what lies ahead after Wisconsin...I might be overly cautious but that is what I'd do at this point.

I would like to see Tyrone Tracey as well as a few other True Freshmen in this game... after UNI there is no guarantee these guys will get the opportunity.

I've heard NOTHING about Tyrone and I find that strange.

Anyone have any scoop on him? I really thought he'd contribute this year.

I know the early reports are they it isn't a break but when ISM went out with a shoulder I was glad this new rule was in place.

Moss isn't a walkon, but he came close to grayshirting.

Levar said before the season that they planned to use Moss in all four special teams phases. He ain't redshirting.
