New Baseball Commit

More info on him?
This is from perfect game: Joey Oakie is a 2024 RHP/MIF with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Ankeny, IA who attends Ankeny Centennial. Medium frame and lanky build with tons of room to fill and physical development left, has lots of length to him. Primary right-handed pitcher with a long arm action that gets offline in the back, shows advanced arm speed for his age. Simple and repeatable operation, really whips the arm through and flashes late arm side action to the fastball. Throws a sharp curveball with 11/5 shape, late breaking pitch with some bend to it. Changes speeds with the breaker and shows the ability to add and subtract velocity from the pitch. Also throws a nice changeup with fading action and a short cutter to complete the four-pitch mix. Impressive showing with advanced feel on the bump for his age. Right-handed hitter with an even base and high back elbow set. Longer swing path with present bat speed, shows good balance and extension. Stays directional during the operation and uses the whole field, solid round with good contact. Young prospect with exciting projection as he grows and fills out the frame. Great student. Named to the 2021 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase Top Prospect List.

Info on Blake: Blake Guerin is a 2022 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-6 230 lb. frame from Shoreview, MN who attends Mounds View. XL frame with strong, sturdy build; ran 60 yard dash in 8.37 seconds. Hits from even-based stance, big bar in hands to load with separation, intent is to hit the ball hard pull-side, strength stands out, can really impact the ball when on time. Worked out at first base, solid fundamental footwork with developing athleticism, clocked up to 80 mph on throws. Also pitched, hides the ball well, simple delivery, high 3/4 slot, fastball worked 77-81 mph and pounded the zone with it, showed solid straight changeup as well as curveball, did an excellent job throwing strikes. Good student, named to 2020 Spring Top Prospect Showcase Top Prospect List.

how did Minnesota lose out on this kid? He's literally in their back yard!

He's a young 9th grader this year. He was throwing 85-86 a few months ago. He's also a very good football player (best LB in his grade at ACHS), a good basketball player, smart, a hard worker, a great teammate, and a great kid.

Good chance we’ll play against Joey this weekend. Still weird to see kids this young committing.

mt, you have a kid at Centennial?

Some speculation on Gopher Hole he is in the twilight of his coaching days. They can't do anything right this year.

I just read gopher hole and man, they sure do think a lot of themselves. They are 4-23, yet it seems like every time they have lost it’s been to mediocre or average teams.

I’m curious if Coach Heller plans to utilize the portal for to get a few guys from other D1 schools to come next year. They will be immediately eligible, and like all other sports sounds like a lot of talent will be in the portal. Go get a couple of top arms from Ivy League schools.

They do have a huge recruiting class coming in already, I think 13 players if I counted correctly.

It will be interesting to see what the final roster for 2022 ends up being.

Heller always seems to figure it out, though. We are so lucky to have him!
