What a turn of events in 2020, as I was looking forward to what may be the last March Madness, with my mother, who entered home hospice in February?
The 2019-2020 season has been a joy for both my favorite College Basketball teams. As Fran McCaffery shared yesterday, at least we got the regular season to enjoy.
The development of Luka Garza, was the male version of Megan Gustafson. Sadly, the pandemic brought the sports world to a crashing end.
Of course, the risk of a pandemic has been out throughout the years. While sports are important, the turn of events in this new decade bring us pause.
I received another call from the University of Iowa ticket office this week. It went to voicemail.
What will we be talking about in the coming weeks, as the sports calendar is done for the 2019-2020 academic calendar?
I have to admit, do I pull the plug?
I want to thank @TomKakert and @Blair Sanderson. Year 20 is approaching on Hawkeye Report. Or, will it?
I have enjoyed Iowa sports, since 1974. This is certainly an unprecedented time in our history. There was no social media back in 1918.
The Spanish Flu certainly ripped through America. Hitting Philadelphia hard and not so much, in St. Louis, as the story goes.
Now, we face 2020, with not a sport, really.
It has been pleasure to talk College Sports with many of you. As we distance from others at this time, constantly washing our hands, and avoiding contact with our faces; it is great to look back at the joys of the 2019-2020 season.
Here and Now, into the future, the landscape may never be the same. The NCAA and major sports schools have some real questions ahead.
Sports in general will be impacted. We shall see in time how it all plays out.
Wishing each and every one of you good health to you and yours.
Likely, a lot of things are going to change next week. We shall see, but as Des Moines Public Schools extend spring break, what will the ripple effect be in rural Iowa?
Peace be with each of you.
As I reflect on today, I am glad that I have enjoyed 45 plus years of Iowa athletics with family and friends. However, the future may not be the same?
Of course, is it ever?
My father and father in-law passed away over the past 8 years. My children are grown. What is next?
peace
