Kyle, is it more the trend to offer 7th graders now? This seems ridiculous... I'm not blaming Bluder and staff for doing it if everyone else is but we are talking 13 year olds.

Recruiting starts for girls earlier than boys. Baseball recruiting starts pretty early too.

New favorite thread.

FWIW Jayla Jackson follows me on Twitter and has liked a few things I’ve retweeted/shared.

Okay, I kind of get the girls over boys at that age but why baseball? That seems crazy to me.
baseball is more projectable/ less dependent on physical development . 88 mph or an elite spin rate are objective data; as opposed to a 7th grade kid putting up 24 & 10 with 7 blocks per game because they hit puberty early and are 6'4 , but will be done growing before HS.

baseball is also basically a 1v1 game under the guise of a team sport, which makes some things easier as well

Very true, there was a running joke at a school I knew. They had an early maturing guy who was top 50 in his class as a 7th grader. As others caught up and going to his senior year the joke was ‘well he stayed the same, he is still in the top 50 7th graders’

Kyle any idea who Lisa will bring in for the first two football games ? Thanks in advance and your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Kind of a wait and see who tweets about visiting for WBB. I do know that Addison Bjorn plans on visiting for the Iowa Iowa State game.

FWIW, this post by hardcore Gopher WBB fan Ignatius L Hoops appeared today on Gopherhole's Women's Basketball Forum:

"From this morning's Power Trip [radio show on KFAN]

Cory Cove: Is there a chance you might have a daughter playing basketball for the Gophers?
Chad Greenway: Is this a recruiting pitch? Show me the NIL deal-then we'll talk....there's a chance, there's a chance."

I’m old and hate change but this “show me the NIL deal then we’ll talk” world of college sports just sucks Muskie

I'm sure the comment was made in jest. However, I'm not a huge fan of NIL. That being said, NIL is good for Iowa Women's basketball even if it might hurt MBB or Football until someone steps in and puts some real guidelines in place.

I would think Maddyn would fare much better at Iowa NIL wise because of Chad's connection to Iowa Football. The draw on the family name will appeal to local businesses, particularly in The Corridor area. And if those businesses could manage to set up some father-daughter endorsements, she has a great shot of breaking 7 figures.

I could see a company like Scheels, for instance, forking over big bucks for a Greenway family commercial.

Care to plug your account?
@B1Giowawbbstan thanks! I started at the tail end of last season bc Iowa wbb stuff was taking over my normal twitter. More often than not I’m just retweeting Kyle lol. Occasionally I bicker with Gamecock fans. But a handful of recruits / alum have liked my stuff / followed me. I hope you like housewives gifs.

Very interesting to note that Ava Heiden’s twitter likes are massively in favor of Iowa. Went through all her likes in August and it’s either not team college associated likes or its Iowa.
Have to go back to the middle of July for likes of Stanford, Utah and Oregon State tweets. She visited Iowa early in August.

I'm now rooting for us to get Ava Heiden from the 2024 class, Ava Zediker from the 2025 class, and Ava Miles from the 2026 class so that we can put nearly a full team of Ava's on the floor in 2026-2027.

They would go with Ava Jones next year (if she can play) to make 4. There must be another in the next 4 years we can find! LOL

I don't disagree, however, Chad is also VERY popular in Minneapolis from his 11 year career with the Vikings.

True but Minnesota is a dumpster fire and likely will be until Whalen is shown the door. Things could change as 2026 is a ways off but I don't think they will. I would think Greenway would want to go somewhere where she can compete for Championships.

Not saying that will be Iowa but wishful thinking.

You’re probably right but she is great at recruiting and has the best freshmen class in the B1G this year (tho that was determined before MD got two Top 50 recruits after the portal turned MD into a dumpster fire as well). Some are saying she tanked her team for this class.

Idk that I’d go that far but she and many fans are REALLY excited about this class, and Whalen is also going rly hard for other high level recruits in future classes. Assuming UM gives her the chance, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that things pick up there. But I’m not as familiar with her in-game coaching tbh and also CW would tell you that her ability to retain athletes needs work. So far it seems she may similar to Brenda Frese actually — great at recruiting, but with serious deficiencies elsewhere.

. . . Some are saying she tanked her team for this class.
What did she do or possibly do to tank? Is she the first coach in college history to tank? If not, who else in college has tanked?
