Up to 2x the energy density of current Li-ion cells
Lower weight

That'd take your current 250 mile electrics range up to 400-500 miles.
May even be practical to retrofit existing pack systems in cars to swap them in...

Retrofitting wouldn’t be my first choice. Once you have truly rigid batteries, they can be used as structurally and drastically reduce the weight of vehicles. Right now they can only be used for ballast.

Is there enough Li in the USA to fill our needs into the future?

Lithium is abundant.

what do we do with all the old batteries?

Recycle them. Redwood Materials was started by a former Tesla employee.

“Redwood Materials claims that its recycling technologies can reclaim upward of 95% of the nickel, cobalt, lithium and copper from a battery cell for reuse and remanufacturing.”

Once they get to 500-600 mile range, I'll be in the market for an electric vehicle. That's good for 8-9 hours of driving which is the most I'd drive at one time.
