Many have views that the game has evolved and this staff is stagnant in their beliefs. Give the staff credit for going away from the traditional punt formation this year. I agree Kidd has punted well, but I would also argue that the formation has allowed our players to cover punts much better. McCarron made that nice open field tackle, but the other punts this year there has been a Hawkeye in the punt returners grill each time. Maybe our punt coverage team is better, but I believe credit should go to our coaches. I noticed against UNI that Lazard would return it to the wide side of the field. We always punted it to the short side/sideline and most of our coverage guys were running to the wide side. I believe a key to the Hawkeyes victory was special teams. The key to every Iowa +10 win season was special teams. I think we are getting close. I'm not sold on King as our returner, but am open to seeing what he can do for another week or two.
