new QC bridge already injuring people

Would you rather have someone drive drunk across the bridge, or have someone walk on the sidewalk of the bridge with a buzz? What if they were out drinking in Bettendorf and walked home? I'd say they were being responsible. We saw what happened when someone decided to drive drunk...
I'm not meaning to blame the victims here. The driver is primarily at fault. The engineers/construction firm also has significant fault by not putting up bollards to protect the path from motor vehicles. I'm fully expecting bollards to be constructed in the next few weeks to prevent a similar incident.

My comment was more of an aside. To your point about drinkers, people in the QC don't generally walk across the Mississippi River to drink. When you say out drinking in Bettendorf and walked home, that tells me you're likely not a local since there isn't really anywhere to drink late at night close to the bridge, aside from the casino on the opposite side of the bridge from the pedestrian path and maybe one bar even further away I guess. I'd guess that the people were actually northbound going from downtown Moline, with several bars, to Bettendorf. I used to drive across the old bridge twice a day for 3.5 years when the bridge was closer to downtown Moline. For the new one that is further away from downtown, that would be a long ass hike while sober in daylight let alone while buzzed at 2 AM. That was the point of my comment.

it's amazing what safety engineers will miss

reminds me of the newer Iowa City bridge that allowed people to walk/bike right up the side of it. I think they had to put fences in front of the arches to stop people

I have bikes across it. Very wide, which I guess was part of the problem.

you would have to be about triple over the limit to confuse that path as being the road.

Any word on if the driver knew the victims? Just seems odd that somebody decided to drive over it and the victims failed to get out of the way.

Still won't release the name of the driver. Which is odd, why are they hiding the identity of the person?

I'm not sure they would have had anywhere to go other than the water below depending how close they were to the base. Once you get closer to the base, the space between the path and interstate/off-ramp closes.. but its still a somewhat of a higher barrier that wouldn't be simple to climb, especially if they didnt really see the car coming or didnt have time to react

46 year old women. Chhabria Harris was the driver. Held on 2 million dollar bond.
Driving a Cadillac Escalade. I didn't know that the Harris family brought in that much money for selling crappy QC-style pizza.

Having seen the mugshot, I feel confident saying she is from a different Harris family.

The code in Listing 1 illustrates one of the great merits of OO programming: Code and data reside in close proximity to each other. Data is of course the repository of state, so the use of OO brings code, data, and state together in a manner useful to programmers. Clearly, you can do all of this without OO code, but OO makes it a matter of rather beautiful simplicity https://mlsdev.com/blog/medical-app-development
