Just caught a look at the new big board on Flowrestling. This is now compiled by "The Wrestling Nomad" Dan Lobdell. Disclaimer: He knows his wrestling. I generally put his opinion above just about all others at Flo, but I feel like this reeks of clickbait. His reasoning is flawed (Lee being too small, Lee never have been tested so hard to predict how he would react in a close match, etc...) in my opinion and I find it convenient that all of the sudden he has decided to rethink how this list is put together to justify the change. This is the kind of thing I would expect to see from CP (seems his role is to generate interest/clicks by posting crazy predictions and opinions) but I have to admit as soon as I read this, Flo lost some credibility with me when it comes to accuracy. It seems obvious to me that the switch (and justification for it) was made purely to create controversy and drive site visits.

Now that I think about it, I guess it worked, as now I am thinking/talking/posting about it. Touche Nomad.

I wouldn't get worked up..like you said, someone trying to cause a stir. Anyone with 2 eyes that's watched both of these kids a lot would draw the same conclusion..they are both GREAT..but to me Spencer Lee is a diamond in the rough type..

Here's how I see it..Lee is dominant on his feet and it's hard to imagine even more dominant on top. I see Fix as dominant on his feet but not nearly as dominant on top..

In conclusion..I can see Fix competing with Lee in freestyle, but in folkstyle, I see Lee domination

A diamond in the rough? Do you just mean a diamond? Dan Dennis was a diamond in the rough...

You're right..wrong choice of words..basically I mean I see Lee as a guy like a Snyder, Taylor, Hall, coming out of high school...basically someone as can't miss as you can get

It's one persons opinion and also it is possible that Fix does have a better college career then Lee. Both kids will have to work there butts off to be NCAA champs. Of course my money is in Lee. Go Hawks!

I won't be surprised if Willie now comes on to defend Nomad/Flo's reasons and I'm sure their will be an FRL segment on how the HR is full of conspiracy theorists that Flo is out to get Iowa and then they will tell us none of what they do is for "click bait" as they laugh at even the idea.

/ends thread

Well, FLO now has its Skip Bayless. Tread lightly, being clowns just to be clowns is going to turn even more people off. I actually never minded CP's rankings because I thought his reasoning were actually reasonable (with the exception of JG last year).

This guys' reasons are just silly. Go watch your their last freestyle match. Lee dominated in takedowns. Fix benefited from freestyle scoring, and was bigger. Whatever, I guess we'll see.

In the end this makes no difference.

I could have seen Fix jumping Spencer after he beat him, but what 15 months later. Come on. Reeks of click bait.

His arguments are easily taken apart.

1. I've been as concerned about Spencer's size as anyone, but that has changed after this year. The Ironman win by Spencer was extremely impressive. Silva is an absolute stud (#8 in the 2018 big board) and I've never once heard a concern about his size. Spencer handled him.

2. The close matches point makes no sense at all. I guess by that measure, Dean Heil is a better wrestler than Jason Nolf. No wait, no one in the world thinks that.

"In part, Fix has wrestled so many close matches because he wrestles everywhere and against anyone. Having those reps of learning how to win close matches, being forced to bounce back from losses, and not backing down will come in handy."

Spencer doesn't wrestle everywhere? UWW nationals, UWW worlds, Ironman, PowerAde, PA states? What are those easy tournaments now? Spencer is just that freaking good that he dominates the absolute best there is!!

Anyone who claims he won't be as good in college because he hasn't lost enough in high school is clearly grasping at straws.

I do like the idea of the Big Board not necessarily being the same as the P4P, but if that were the case, Warner would need to be higher that #9 on the Big Board.

Lee regaining the top spot is easy:

1) In his final state series run, take a loss in the regional final.
2) Win a few SV matches on the way to the state finals. Make a couple of them be epic comebacks after giving up 5 point moves.
3) In the state finals avenge the regional final loss in UTB.

Nothing would increase my confidence in Lee's ability to succeed in college more than the above scenario. Not even if he just teched and pinned everybody instead.

Really don't understand why the ranking would change? Neither one has taken a loss since the last ranking.
Also, thought Willie was in charge of the High School rankings?
I can only think that this is what a lot of you have already called it "click bait"
The people at Rocket Mortgage obviously have mentioned the slow number of clicks as of late to Flo. What easier way than to demote the best high school wrestler in the country (possibly ever) to number two. Oh, and he just happens to be a future Hawkeye

Knowing how to win close matches in high school gets Fix the #1 rank over a three time world champ. I'm going to let this pickle around in my brain for a bit because it's not coming together just yet.

Alcohol always helps with understanding and the pickling process.

Am I the only one that thinks Flo gives this guy too much credit because he can pronounce foreign wrestlers names? They are giving some real questionable "Experts" a big platform.

Anyone see the NCAA Wrestling in a Slump article? Talk about a waste of 0s and 1s.

Yeah, I couldn't follow that article at all.

he must have missed spencer lee's world title match then, bec spencer lee was getting it put on him in a hostile environment but yet managed to come back from like 5-7 points down to win yet another world title, if that's not consider a close match then I don't know what is. but no worries in the end we all know spencer is the real deal and will tear it up in Iowa city. cant wait for the next 5 years of battles with Fix.

I agree with OL on the click bait. Personally, completely removing this from wrestling, Flo is doing a fantastic job of PR and Marketing. When you can get free press from the interwebs talking about something they posted, a video they did, it's genius. This one isn't even that far fetched as Fix is great (although I'd choose Lee). AND, anytime they can get something that we Hawk fans feel is a slight on us, clicks go through the roof. Love 'em or hate 'em, Flo has helped to move our sport into the generation that is wrestling now. I loved IPTV growing up, but I'm sure glad that isn't our only option to watch wrestling (along with BigTen and ESPN).

Lastly, is it possible this puts a chip on Spencer's shoulder? That wouldn't be a bad thing :D

My only thought is why did it take so long for Flo to lose credibility with you? Everyone should ignore their links.

Daton lost to Vitali Arujau for 3rd at Super 32's last season(2015). He also got worked over by Karem in the same tourney 9-3. When was the last time Spencer lost a folkstyle match?

Spencer is still #1 P4P in FLO's rankings. And unless Daton has no intentions of making a JR World team this off season, then they will collide in at least two matches, could be 3 matches including JR Nationals for the 55 KG team spot.

Edit: Any chance Daton would wrestle against him at 126 for the Dapper Dan?

Probably nick Suriano his freshmen year. He later avenged the loss.
Just to clarify his loss was Nick Suriano's Freshman year, Spencers 8th grade year. Spencer won the rematch when he was a freshman and Suriano was a Soph.

I watch every hawk match, home in person, and away matches from my computer to the tv. I don't need flo to enable that. Therefore, I don't need flo. Don't think any hawk fan would dispute their bias and I for one will not pay them to promote it nor their using it to increase their ratings. If you like flo, subscribe. If you find them using their bias to make money, don't give them yours. They aren't as important as many seem to portray them.

Why having the Flo people logged on and accused us of wearing tin foil hats? Strange

It's funny because using the criteria he used to change the rankings, this should have been done months and months ago. So nothing changed, no major matches to influence the rankings yet we are changing the rankings now based on variables that have not changed since last season.

Tin foil hats? Pretty funny because the only group that would take issue with the change would be Iowa fans, so changing the rankings for no reason should not surprise anyone. Create a reason for Iowa fans to respond and then call them crazy for responding. Flo = Fake News and selective facts to make their site more popular and edgy.

I guess there is that possibility, but I for one find Dapper Dan pointless. It's a 5 pound weight allowance, which means we often see drastic differences in size between competitors. You can either make a weight or you can't...
