Just a side note but I really like some of the changes to improve the college game this past off season. I am all for freedom of movement and the move to the 30 second shot clock. I also like that the back court 10 second count does not reset like it used to (wish they would drop it to 8 seconds from 10).

What I like the most is the reduction of a time out and the inability for the coach to bail out the players. Fewer timeouts allows more continuous flow/action and coaches not bailing out trapped players rewards good defense. Good stuff. They could get rid of another timeout for my liking but I know that cuts into TV ad revenues.

Can anyone help solve the imagination and wonder of three fans who watched on television? Purdue's last timeout. Did their guy really call it, or did one of our guys yell, "Time out!"? I could have sworn one of our guys did it.

For the next ten minutes three Hawkeye fans trapped in Illinois were shouting, "Call a timeout!", everytime Purdue had the ball.

Not sure on that one either. It was hard to tell if the Purdue guard signaled it when trapped or if it was verbalized by him or his teammates. I could see why Painter was miffed on that one but that was big because they had no more TOs with 10 minutes to go. No option to draw something up or give any final instructions at their choosing.

Again fewer TOs lets the players play instead of all this coaching intervention.

On tv you could see the player look up at the ref before making his step through attempt. The announcers didn't think he called one until they took a closer look at that replay. Didn't hear anything, but the ref was five feet away and called it immediately when the player pulled his head up to look at him, so I'm guessing he called it. He probably would have been called for a travel without the TO.
