Two Iowa newspapers will reduce their printed newspapers to three days per week starting next month.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald and Cedar Rapids Gazette announced separately on Tuesday that they would each transition to printing three days per week.

Both outlets cited the evolving news landscape and the shift in readers getting their news on digital platforms rather than in newspapers as reasons for the schedule change.

Starting Feb. 17, the Gazette will go from publishing a print paper seven days a week to only printing on:

  • Wednesday
  • Saturday
  • Sunday
The announcement states that the paper will continue to provide readers with daily coverage through its digital newspaper, website and social media pages.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette is 100% employee-owned. Its holding company, Folience, owns a few smaller papers, Life Line Emergency Vehicles and Cimarron Trailers.

Starting Feb. 15, the Telegraph Herald will go from publishing a print newspaper six days a week to only publishing on the following days:

  • Wednesday
  • Friday
  • Sunday
The announcement also states that subscribers will still be able to access coverage through the electronic version of the Telegraph Herald newspaper—available seven days a week—the Telegraph Herald mobile app and its website.

The Telegraph Herald is owned by Woodward Communications, which also owns other community publications along with radio stations in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Loons running a business going down the drain.
