So it looks that Iowa will return a lot of starters on both sides of the ball.. especially the defense (minus the 3 we will lose and will definitely make an impact) but with the newcomers and hoping that Hooker plays at LB.. this should be a sound defense

The offense returns the nucleus of starting o-line and wide receivers plus I do think we are loaded at TB.. should be fun to see all this pan out on both sides of the ball but I believe this is probably the year or 2019 could also be the year the Hawks make it back to Indy. Let’s all hope we can do a back to back like Wisconsin seems to always do..

Speaking of Wisconsin.. they lose a ton of the defense and meaning they can’t just plug n play and have instant success like they have been.. but they do return the top tailback in the big ten if not the country in Taylor.. wow the kids awesome wish he would go pro already I know right. It should be a 3 team race with Iowa, Wisconsin and Purdue.. on no particular order of finish but I like our chances if the ball bounces our way more than not..

I can point out a lot of toss up games here .. Purdue, Wisconsin, Iowa State and Ped State .. but I can also see Iowa beating them all and then pulling a KF and lose to someone like Minnesota or someone.. I would gladly take a 11-1 record if offered to me by my magic genie though. Thoughts?

must start 3-0 and quite frankly should. I believe Iowa will remember the NW and Purdue losses and win those 2 games. Iowa will lose 1 of the Minn/Ind Mary stretch of games happens every year. Penn St on the road probably a loss, Beat Illinois, Wisc/ Neb Split . 9-3 season , nice bowl .

Teams like Purdue, Minny, ISU, and Nebbie will improve from this year.

I look for 7-9 wins next year. Lot of unknowns at this point. Losing 3-4 key defenders is big. Offense should hopefully be improved.

Right now I’d feel comfortable predicting 8-9wins. Could change pending what happens in off season.

Meaningless statement. They are only additional games to be concerned about.

Tghe fact that they lost to them this year will be past history. Iowa will have to look at all games with the same passion or lose again. I don't think Iowa took them lightly this year. Iowa just horribly inept offensively. Much blame falls on our "hands of stone" receivers and not just Stanley. The opposing defenses could load the box knowing Iowa's predictability and not respecting Iowa's passing game.

Iowa looked and played Purdue like they could just show up and win , no fire or passion except for Jewell , Purdue will have Iowas attention even being a road game . NW Iowa was beaten because they were stubborn and kept trying to run at them all day .Jackson is gone from NW and its at home , that's why I believe Iowa wins those games.

Now that's one big problem with Iowa fans. We loose most of our playmakers and I'm sure Jackson is gone but fans talk about being happy with 11-1. Hell Alabama would be happy with 11-1.

The defense played good in both those games. Iowa's offensive simply sucks. Lack of passion - coaches failed. Stubborn at always running the ball - coaches failed again. Iowa desperately needs a different OC. I agree with you.

Wisky will have either a very good defense or a great one. And with their talented rb's and that OL, the offense will be good enough to win most of their games again.

I think Iowa's defense will always be good to very good under PP. The effectiveness of the offense will depend on the level of mistakes (ie. drops, penalties, etc.).

8-4 is what I expect. I'd be thrilled with 9-3, depending of course on who the 3 losses are. Can't be thrilled if they lose to the clowns.

I worry about the boat rowers up north too. The game being in Minny next year could make it interesting. Hate losing to them being a hawk fan living in Minny I never hear the end of it when we lose.

Better have improved leadership and prep for road games. A series of 4 out of 5 on the road in B1G play is a gauntlet of sorts no matter the opponent. Purdue likely improves and Minny and Indiana could as well. Maryland is poised to improve as well. Need to take the schedule seriously. I'd be happy with 9-3.
Wish I could have the confidence in the Hawks' football next season that some of the other posters have. Not sure what will make us be much better than we were this season. In fact, if offered 7-5 for next season, I'd take it immediately.

Maryland was a VERY good team with it’s week1 starting QB and then his true freshman replacement.

Once both of those guys were lost for the season is when Maryland dropped back. They ended the season with their 4th string QB. I don’t think we would have beaten lowly Nebraska with our 4th stringer.

That will be a tough game, IMHO.

I'll guess 7 - 5. The defense, which was its only strong area, takes a big hit. I see offense as the same. The loss of Wadley is very big. Special teams can't get any worse, so, improvement most likely will happen there. Not much different from this season.

Iowa won't lose to Minny for the foreseeable future...they still have QB issues, even with the juco transfer next season.

I know there are folks that think thats crazy, but I agree, at least from a consistancy perspective. Akrum was a big play waiting to happen, but there were plenty of games that he didn't get loose. IKM looks like a dynamic player, and solid group around him with Young, Byran, and Geil. We'll be more then fine running the ball. We'll be outstanding at TE. The key will be continued growth from ISM, Smith, Easley, Cooper, Young, and etc... and Stanley of course.

Assuming TB stands for tailback.....haven’t heard that in ages. Dilly dilly

Unless you don’t see the 17-20 players who played this year significantly to not improve then yeah your right....fortunately for us you are probably wrong. One of us will eat crow in 9 months- hope you’re hungry

Iowa should have a good season next year. Most of the building blocks are in place. Schedule is favorable. Barring significant injuries this looks like a 9 or 10 win schedule.

The passing game will be better next season.

I too would love to eat crow. I just don't see it happening. 7 - 5

Losses on Defense
DT - Bazata
LB - Neimann
LB - Jewell
LB - Bower
SS - taylor
*CB - Jackson (probably gone)

Losses on Offense
RB - Wadley
RB - Butler
WR - Vandeberg
TE - Pekar
FB - Kulick
OL - Welsh
OL - Boetger
OL - Myers
*OL - Daniels (I think he'll be back)

As for a prediction? Looking at what we graduate and looking at the schedule, I'd say we are looking at an 8 win season. But I have stopped trying to predict what a KF team will or won't do. I'd put the basement at 6 wins.

I see an upgrade at every position minus LB and even if Jackson declares we will be solid at DB. 7-5 this year with top 3 schedules and of those 5 losses 4 were by one score or less. I’m looking at next years schedule....what don’t you see?

Iowa State is on the rise I think we go 9-3 and we upset someone like Penn State or Wisconsin but we will probably lose to Iowa State or Purdue

The positions there won't be an upgrade at:
RB (Wadley's big play ability is not easily replaced)
WR (there were times when Vandeberg was the only WR that could catch a ball)
2 of the 3 LB spots (Maybe even Bower)
CB (I doubt there is a Jackson on the roster)
Center (if Daniels leaves)
Guard (possibly. Welsh had a lot of starts)

Losing or retaining people never seems to translate properly from the year before. Normally we don't see flashes from guys like Epenesa until their sophomore, usually junior years. With the time the younger players have been getting we should be looking at a decent year. IMO the only thing we need to be looking at is WR - if we get one suddenly our mega-TE will have room to star and we won't be basically operating on 3 downs every set with predictable run calls.

I see the defense taking a MAJOR hit, the offense taking a big hit (Wadley is a rare talent, Brian just didn't utilize him very well, play calling pathetic), receivers have poor hands, only Hockenson is a reliable pass catcher, an offense that rated #107 out of 129 teams doesn't give me hope. The only area that I see improvement is special teams only because from the cellar, there is only one way to go.
