Hard to say for sure but keep in mind they've got Smith-Marsette, Ragaini, Smith, Tracy, Martin, Cooper in the mix. Not to mention the tight ends. Maybe Jones as a punt return specialist?Where do the young and transfer recievers fit in? Will Combs, Jones, Hutson, & Lockett see many snaps?
Morehouse compared him to Tracy. That Diante Vines kid their bringing in looks like if he gets coaches up a bit more could very well be a Smith Marsette kind of guy. Very fast and crisp route running.
Sounds closer to Tracy to me, too, as Vines is 5'11" 189 but a lightening bolt.Morehouse compared him to Tracy.
Now that I went back and looked at his highlights again I do see where he does look more like Tracy as wellSounds closer to Tracy to me, too, as Vines is 5'11" 189 but a lightening bolt.
Better comparison imo.
This is confusing. DJK was more of freelancer, not necessarily the best route runner. And he was bigger, considerably bigger at 6'1", 210 lbs.Honestly the best comparison in my mind if you set aside personal issues is DJK.
Tracy has a little more wiggle whereas I see Vines as that athletic, crisp route runner.

I respectfully disagree.I don't get this at all. DJK was well known for his route running ability which was the reason he had the most receptions in Iowa history when he left.
Here's an article from the time:
The two groups even parallel each other in their dynamics. McNutt and Posey are large, physical juniors, while Johnson-Koulianos and Sanzenbacher are seniors who rely more on speed and precise route-running.
Here's a scouting report:
This is the area where Derrell will make his money. He can separate from cornerbacks and run routes with the best of them. It was something that really stood out to scouts when he participated at the East-West Shrine Game, and he did it consistently for four years at Iowa.
The funny thing is I just saw that I'm not the first one to make this comparison. BHGP did in an article:
Watching the video, Vines reminds a bit of former Hawkeye standout Derrell Johnson-Koulianos.
Tracy, Ragaini and LaPorta, with no one else stepping up would be better than about 60% of the receiver groups at Iowa under Ferentz.Looking good for next year outside of not getting much experience for guys coming up. Real concern for me is 2021, but we will still have Tracy and Ragaini plus LaPorta.
Hutson was not on travel all year. He split time there with Lockett. Despite missing all of camp with an injury, Combs also made it to travel (which says something given his presumed lack of knowledge of the offense). Jones is fast, skilled and has return experience. Both those transfers will have an impact next year. Irrespective of Vines skills, it is very unlikely that he will be a factor in 2020 as it takes time to learn the ropes and he’s not an early enrollee. For perspective, despite what we now know to be talented players, Tracy and Ragaini had a combined 2 catches as true freshmen. Plus, as many have noted, the room will be loaded.I'm really pulling for Hutson. He traveled with the team all year, has great size and a compelling story. Easy kid to root for.
