Watching the Combine on NFL Network, from Indy.

Noticed that M Mayock has Henry Krieger-Coble as the #5 Tight End available in
this year's draft.

Also, I noticed that Todd McShay's Top 10, overall available lists V Hargreaves, the
FL defensive back who Desmond King beat-out for Thorpe award, as being in his
Top 10 picks overall. (Meaning Dez King would have been Top 10.)

I would actually say, because of the system & coach that King has played in & for for 4 yrs, king would be a better prospect. The "character" that Ferentz demands from these kids is a gigantic factor in taking a kid. King is not some 2 yr college, good athlete. The other kid is A good prospect in a thin class of DBS.
I would think king would be the #1 DB in this draft.

He wasn't the #1 fb in this draft. Not even close. A number of underclassmen were rated higher than him. Just because he won the Thorpe doesn't automatically translate to draft stock.
King came back for a reason. He wasn't a projected 1st or 2nd round pick this year. Another decent season and some good numbers at next year's combine and Dez will be a first rounder. Much bigger payday.

yeah - i agree. it'll be interesting to see how much he progresses this year. can he be a dominant player? not just a dominant dback, but can he change the entire dynamic of our defense (like a lot of 1st round guys tend to do)?

So the Heisman winner is always the first pick, then?

he came back because he promised his family he'd finish college and YES, according to several scouts, he IS the best CB out there THIS YEAR. He is by far the most well rounded. Insticts, tackling, coverage, size speed combined makes him "the best ON FILM". Hargraves is immature speed guy. Ramsey mostly played safety (there's a reason for that.. cover ability) & he's not near as physical as king. Just because "the experts" (not 1 of em is a scout or an expert) say so doesnt make it so.
So Sherff stayed because he was gonna be a 2nd-3rd round draft pick??? No, not close. There's no time like playing HS and college FB. Play it as long as you can is what Iowa encourages. The King's arent desperate for the$$

Not trying to be an ass, but please post the links to the several scouts that say King is the best CB if he had entered the draft. I haven't seen any of these and it would make for some interesting reading.

I don't know if the Heisman winner is always the first pick but more times than not they seem to be a bust

The OP, that would MOI, never said the Heisman is always top pick, now did I?

What I did INFER is that Dez King would have been a HIGH, perhaps very HIGH pick in this year's draft. Any reasonable person would realize this to be true. Why? Because Desmond is
a h**uva Football player.

And that being said, if Derrick Henry is still available, when my NFL team has their first pick,
I sure hope to heck that they TAKE him. Incredible RB.

Why the hell do they measure 40 times for kickers?!?! What the hell does that have to do with their jobs?? Leg strength, accuracy and ability to handle pressure should be all that matters.

I guess maybe the few times you might try a fake field goal or two point conversion, and of course kickoff coverage....if i had two to choose from and kicking was even I would go with the speed as an added quality. Just my take on it.

You said he would have been a top 10 pick because the guy he beat out for the Thorpe award is projected to be a top 10 pick. Drafts don't work that way.

And you have NO WAY of knowing where Desmond King would be drafted. All I'm saying is that it very well could have been HIGH, VERY HIGH. (In light of where Hargreaves is ranked)

Out

You see we do have an idea where King would be drafted. You even used an expert to jump to the conclusion that if Hargreaves was ranked that high by an expert then King would be a top 10 pick. King will get his chance to play in the NFL but to suggest that he was the top ranked corner if he was in the draft isn't true.

If King would have been top 10 high I would hope Kirk would have told him to go. Because anyone who is a projected top ten pick and returns to school is crazy

Agree ....he wouldn't have been a top ten pick this year ....that's why he's staying in school. Next year ....lets hope so!

Those are simply NOT the reasons he and his family gave for returning to Iowa to play his
Senior year.

I do not think it is a major factor, however; if all else equal it could be a determining factor. There are a few times in which a kicker's speed would be important, there are countless times where I have seen a kicker save a touchdown on kick coverage. Running a 4.6 as opposed to a 5.3 would be very helpful. I know this is not often, but as I said if all else equal I take the athlete

Desmond King would not have been top 10 pick simply because he is not a "combine #'s" guy. He certainly might be top 10 football player but he is not a 4.4 type players. That is not taking anything away from him, more so pointing out how silly the #'s analysis can be at times at all levels of football. There are often times where a guy may not run a top notch 40 time, but has top notch football speed on the field....sometimes it is just silly to me

Every year you hear about workout warriors at the combine, Many times they end up being total busts, Trust the game tape.

Outside of Jalen Ramsey (who might be a transcendent talent) I'll put Desmond King up against any corner in this years draft. King can be a Chris Harris Jr. Kind of player in the NFL.
