Nice interview with Terry

OTF stands for “on the fly,” and it’s a type of interview that is done on the spur of the moment with little or no planning. They are generally emotion based, and you needn’t bother to ask for point-to-point setup information in an OTF situation.

There's a look at a coach who cares deeply for his guys and understands them inside and out. One of the things I admire most about our coaches is the sincere personal interest they take in their wrestlers. That's not to say that other coaches don't care, by any means -- just that Hawk fans can be very proud of the way our coaches mentor their guys and go out of their way to help them reach their potential on the mat and beyond. Good stuff.

I couldn't help but laugh when Brands was asked about whether or not he wrestles with Thomas.... "I spar with him, I dont wrestle with him." Then with a little grin, he says, "That gives me an out, doesn't it?"

:) Good stuff

How guys like Teasdale can watch this, and see Gilmans run at Paris, and not want to wrestle for TnT is beyond me. If I were a lightweight with world championship and gold medal aspirations, there's no chance of turn down an opportunity to train with these guys. But hey, that's just me. Maybe Cody Sanderson has just had bad luck with his lightweights...

I'm sure this has been posted somewhere, but I've missed it:

Why the Titan Mercury gear? Can HWC not yet afford to fully sponsor someone at this level?

<<Why the Titan Mercury gear? Can HWC not yet afford to fully sponsor someone at this level?>>

Not even close-- the only club that can afford that is the NLWC-- they have 15X our $$ in the bank

Any idea what cost is to send someone, hypothetically a 57kg, with requisite support staff/coaches to, let's say hypothetically Paris?

Btw, I appreciate the response, always insightful.

Important to remember -- to keep things in perspective and remind us that there's still plenty of work to be done.

Why would the HWC want to fully sponsor someone? Let those other guys throw some money at the guys also. The more the merrier. If they have to wear a Titan Mercury shirt - big deal. The HWC can pay them some money and Titan Mercury or NYAC or Sunkist or whoever can also support them.

I don't have an exact breakdown..but Titan Mercury has been a great partner.. some years their support had equaled 35% of our total budget.

We can do a better job getting our logo as equal billing etc.. but we are lucky to have Titan and a guy like Andy Barth that helps support us. I was on a trip where he was the Team Leader... He cares about the sport, he spends a TON of his personal $$.

Why?

Because Terry Brands was just on video wearing TMWC gear talking about his World Silver medalist, who was in a TMWC singlet.

If your ideal scenario isn't swapping all of that for HWC, I don't know what to say.

No doubt, and I'm not questioning their involvement, it is great.

But if HWC was funded at NLWC levels, that would open TMWC up to funding that many more wrestlers. More funding is simply good for the sport. I think we all agree on that.

I think people understand that Titan Mercury as well as NYAC etc are just sponsors and help financially support the wrestlers. There is no workout room for Titan Mercury or NYAC that I know of where only people who are supported by them train. The HWC will always be a place to train as will OTC and NLWC and others. Other organizations help financially. I am not sure it matters if the shirt said Titan Mercury or HWC when it comes to choosing a place to train. It only matters in regards to how much money you get and who you get it from. Now if you are saying you wish the HWC had enough money to give a guy so much money he did not want any more money, then OK. That would be nice.

I think sponsorships would be a little easier if the sponsor saw the logo they sponsor on a silver medalist.

This. And every dollar TMWC doesn't need to spend on a HWC gets spent on someone else.

Dare to dream, win the lottery, take care of your family, and when you die leave enough to endow HWC for a lifetime of competitors.
