Today, Nick Baer was the Energizer Bunny against UNI.
He came off the bench to score 11 points and then grab
11 rebounds., 2 blocks, 2 assists and 1 steal. Baer will
the Super Sub, 6th Man, that Iowa needs to stay focused.

It is great to see a walk-on receive a scholarship. He has
really earned it. In his sophomore year he could be the
glue that holds the Hawkeyes accountable on defense.

He's highly kinetic, in a good way. And very aware. Not a lot of wasted motion for no reason.

Baer is my favorite player on the team. I'm so glad Fran moved him back to the bench.
He is so effective as a 6th man and won't be surprised if he wins it this year.
This kid is a warrior!
Baer is the kind of kid you have to have on a successful team.
I love Jok, but without Baer this team would be going nowhere.

Agree with everything on here. But I will say that for the first time, ever, I saw Nicholas running the wrong way when a shot came off the rim. I was stunned. Had this Harry Potter like rebound spell warn off? But, no, he still ended up with a double double.

Edit to add there must have been some slight flaw in the rim. Wells Fargo should check the thing. UNI's threes may have bent it.

Nick Baer's Basketball IQ is off the charts. He can
anticipate where the ball is going on both offense
and defense. He knows what to do when the basketball
is in his hands. He is an unselfish player who just wants
to win. Thanks to Bettendorf High School for producing
this great kid.

I could see Nicholas Baer as B1G 6th Man of the Year...that would be quite the accomplishment for a former walk-on from Iowa.

Who would have thunk it? Like nobody.....well except the recipient

If not this year it will be because an older guy gets it. But Baer certainly offers the kind of guy you want coming off the bench if you can afford to keep him there. I'd love to have a potential double/double guy who causes other teams problems that should require a starter defending him.

Great post Sleeping Dog. Imo, giving Baer opportunity to watch for a bit only helps him even more when he comes in. If he were on another team I'd call him a sneaky $%^#, $%&, *^$#. I think, he sees the floor and spots things others might not ever get the grasp of.

What surprised me in some earlier games as well as tonight is how fast he can get a rebound turn and be in his own lane. It feels like he only takes three dribbles and he is trying to pass or lay it in.
If you get a chance to watch tonight's game take a note when he rebounds and gets a charge on the other end.

.There are some things you can't teach. Baer's 6th sense of knowing where the ball is coming off the rim & then being there is truly a gift.
