Nick Suriano

When I read this thread I don't know what the problem is. I guess I have all the ignorant ****ing trolls on ignore too.

As an aside you also have to remind yourself, they have no memory of the 1997 Iowa team because that occurred BC; Before Carl, or before the history of modern wrestling.

True story, I'm not lying, a month ago I ran out of Tognetti's Electric shirts to wear to work and I have this PSU shirt in the draw (The shirt I will wear some day because of a bet I loss to a PSU fan, pic with John Smith and me) so I decided to wear it that day. By noon I had two people say how could I wear that shirt because of what happened there. Lucky they were two clients I've known for a while. Called my wife and told her to bring me another shirt to finish out that day. I've moved on from what happened there but a lot of people haven't.

You sound like a p***y, letting people tell you what to wear and you listening

For the same reason I won't wear an Oklahoma shirt because of what Timothy McVeigh did in OKC. I blame everyone there for what one man did.

See how stupid that sounds.
Yes, everyone here agrees this analogy was turrible.

Everytime we think there's a glimmer of hope that fanbase will get it, we receive a reminder. Or a dozen.

Let's get back to Suriano.

Yes that does sound stupid. Unfortunately I don't think it was in the way you intended. Best to change your approach on this one.

There is nothing to talk about Suriano. We don't know-
1. Has he asked for a release?
2. Is there really interest in Rutgers?

All there is is rumors and speculation. No verified facts from either camp.

As stupid as it sounds, Mike's words have merit. It's funny that you bring up McVeigh because in debates about Islamic extremism, he is always brought up as an example of Christian extremism. Never mind that his motivations were almost purely anti-governmental...doesn't matter. Had a buddy down in Az from P.A....big PSU/Paterno fan who stopped wearing gear because of the comments....not because he was ashamed of PSU but because it just wasn't worth it.

Hey, not everyone is reluctant to wear PSU apparel. Some celebrities do, like Al Pacino. ;)

Your buddy wasn't a true fan, I'm not going through life worried about others reactions, that ain't living, that's busy dying

Yea...except when he is out to eat with his family at a brewery and getting comments from the peanut gallery or doing Christmas shopping and gets asked by a lady if he is ashamed. This was five or six years later. I disagree with quite a few in here...you should be able to walk around dressed head to toe in PSU gear IMO without catching flak. It's not supposed to be like that...it just is. Kind of like the Ohio State comments I see on the PSU board about accepting free cars and money derived from Terelle Pryor's days.

No, they certainly do. I ran into it myself in the early days while wearing PSU gear. I reminded every one of those people that their school and community has a few hundred pedophiles running around on campus every day, so don't cast too many of those stones. 1 in 20 men is estimated to have actual or latent pedophile tendencies. I don't say any of this to dispel the whole PSU thing, but to say that there are plenty of bad people in PA, Iowa and elsewhere.

I haven't gotten a comment like that since like 2012, so am not sure I'm buying what Mikey is selling. I don't live in PA either. I am in Clemson country.

I believe it. I had similar experiences here. I'm not sure Penn State fans and alumni in PA truly understand how that travesty has affected many people's perceptions (at least here in Cali).

That being said, I know some people on here bring up Sandusky because it's a convenient stick to poke in a Penn State fans eye (especially those who come over here just to spar with you guys). But doing that really is an injustice and actually belittles and trivializes the horror that happened. It also doesn't belong on a wrestling board.

Give the kid his release. Taking the FRL talking point, the if I was Carl thought process. I First, would remind myself that I am holier than thou. Second, I would pray about it. Third, I would decide to give him a conditional release and I would not allow him to go to one of the power houses like Iowa. Ah, so there you have it, if Carl doesn't give him the release to Rutgers he is the fake we know him to be.

Nice job FRL, "Carl's corner." He has invested so much. Those guys contradict themselves multiple times every show and yet I listen to them, I know. I don't however check the Folly Crap bag on Intermat! That guy is worthless.

its real. My nephew a few months back moved to Montana. He is a die hard PSU fan and recent grad, who is flying home for the sPitt game. Anyway, he stopped wearing his psu gear in MONTANA of all places because he got tired of the eye ball rolling. No comments, but the eye balls weighed heavy he says. Guys he works with busted his balls early on about it too. Which is kind of like here in the HR, its the end of the discussion not the beginning. is what it is.

PSU f-d up, people are in jail. Curly and Shultz just stared work release this week. Sanduskys kid is in jail awaiting trial for kiddy porn. Its a mess. My only regret and maybe its a fear is that I think sandusky is not alone in his issues and right now there are people running around PA that should be behind bars. but no body wants to or can open that box. I could be all wet on that thought, but I dont think I am.

there is strange sh!t going on everywhere.............unfortunately.

I was recently with a friend at a bar that is a Duke graduate. The conversation came up with a couple of strangers about college, and he proudly stated he was a Duke grad (as he should). The conversation immediately went to the lacrosse team and the rape allegations. Unfortunately, what's on the news becomes ingrained in the minds of the public, even if it's unfair to the university as a whole.

Now you're making me reply, not what one man did but the people in charge did by covering it up. I did say I have moved on along time ago and just making a statement of what really happened. I see it has happened to a few other people. I rest my case.

I have talked to both lance and ryan. They both said iowa was a good program. Lance was told no big ten schools and no in state school. Ryan hasn't been with the team since after Xmas break. He told me brands won't release him and he's heading to uni this fall anyway. He will have 1 year of eligibility left. I don't think what brands is doing is wrong. If u make a commitment u should honor it. In Lance case he wasn't going to beat stolls and ryan he grow out of his spot at 41.
St.John got a release to go to ISU. That cannot be a hard standard.

Do u really think St. John got any money form the program? Every case is different. I'm just stating what was said to me form Lance and ryan.

I hate when Hawks resort to the Sandusky comments on a wrestling forum. The two aren't related. It's a low blow, cheap shot. Represent yourselves and Iowa better than that imo.

I agree with the exception of this time. Reread the thread, a PSU poster said that Iowa City would be a terrible place to live. Iowa City is an awesome college town, & in this case it is pretty appropriate to remind that poster that PSU can't say a negative word about the climate at any University.

No offense, but did they recently remove IC from Iowa? We moved from the state, in large part, due to the climate. While I love me some Hawkeye wrestling, I'll probably be flying in for duals in the future rather than driving.

Granting a release has nothing to do with Nick getting to wrestle next year. That would be Jim Delany's job as B1G commish. All a release does is increase the odds of a hardship waiver from 0% to 25% (my guess). It's a red herring issue at its core.

So there no reason not to give a release - case closed.

correct me if I'm wrong, the release only helps with his ability to receive scholarship money towards next year. if b10 to b10 he looses a year no matter what unless your micic. if no release from psu, then has to pay his way.

Timothy McVey didn't work for the University of Oklahoma you freaking idiot. Nor was what he was doing covered up by the head coach and the top 3 administrators. I know you all want to forget about what happened but give it up. The world will never forget.

Pretty much the way it is in Iowa. You mention Penn State and the first words out of peoples mouths are Sandusky and pedophile. Sad but true.

It seems as though there is some confusion about the word "climate." Did you move because of the weather, or people's beliefs/politics/anything else?

I'm kinda curious how wrestling fans in Iowa and any other state for that matter feels about our Pennsylvania boys being the most sought after recruits in the nation. I mean, we didn't even know wrestling existed before Cael came to the keystone state so it must make you feel shitty that our kids are already better wrestlers than yours. Must make you feel even worse that its gonna take Pennsylvania boys (Spencer, Kem, Murin and Young) to try and save Hawkeyes wrestling from going another 8 years without a title.

I know and you know that the first thing you think of when you hear PSU is Cael and his wrestling team. We can read all the bellyaching you spew all over this board. We aren't stupid....

Lance Evans transferred to D3 and didn't need a release. And I still don't buy the Ryan stuff but if it happened it was wrong.

Costello is likely coming to Iowa as a walk-on without money....with Still and Cass on the roster Brands would look foolish not advocating for t

Actually, the fact that your high school wrestling has been the best in the country for a long long time is actually an indictment of PSU and their ignorance and a compliment to Gable, Zalesky and the others who have kept Iowa at the top despite not having the hometown talent.

We are using Pennsylvania talent that was boo'd by Pennsylvania - funny how that works! But before Pennsylvania Iowa was good about supplementing its roster with blue chippers....let's just start with McIlravy, Joe Williams, Strittmatter, Mena, Gilliss, Mocco, Perry, etc....

So, don't pat yourself on the back too much....remember, you haven't heard of wrestling until Cael walked on campus (your words, not mine).
