What are the chances he sees the field this weekend? That was a pretty bad hit he took. Really think he could be a difference maker out there for us though this week in coverage.

Yeah, that was bad. He was pushing the Nebraska Trainers away from him. I'm sure that clip is one his buddies will be giving him crap about for years, even though it was scary

I hope he is able to play because he would be a big loss, but hope he only plays if he really is ok.

He was clearly knocked out and rocked. Sometimes you can recover from that in a few days, sometimes there are ailing symptoms of a concussed head that could keep someone out for more than a week.

The Iowa D has been laying the wood this year. Unfortunately this time we got one of our own.

Speaking of which, how the heck has T. Smith been able to snap back from not one, but two of these head ringers this year? Fingers crossed for all of them. Both of those shots were freakishly scary last week.

The first for sure they said neck not head, and it looked like they were checking his neck again vs Nebraska.

Did anyone else think back to that hit on T. Smith when Canzeri broke both of his runs? They said the safety who was ejected was their leading tackler and good chance that was his assignment as last line of defense on both long runs.

Niemann is listed as a starter on the 2 deep that was just released, but I am sure that this is only if he passes the concussion protocol.

does anyone remember getting your bell rung and once you shook it off, you went back into the game? Yikes.

Yup. That was back in the bad old days when little attention was paid to head injuries. If you were conscious and not puking, you went back in. I never got rocked that bad, but I can think of a couple times when it was probably not the best idea to keep playing.

It's at least getting better now that players are watched more closely and more attention is being paid to baseline testing prior to seasons start so that comparisons are available for any in season head injuries.

If he has any residual symptoms he won't play. They simply cannot, and should not, take chances with that anymore.

Impossible. Return to play with a concussion is a several day process. Helps having an extra day, but they won't have any idea until probably wednesday or Thursday

Baker Mayfield was pretty much cleared last Monday after suffering a concussion on Saturday night. The concussion protocol in college is evidently much more "loose" than in high school.....for now.

I never got my bell rung like that in HS, but we did have a QB back then that seemed to get hauled off the field in what seems like every game he played. When I think about it now it's pretty sad to think what he may be going through today. He would be hauled to the side lines, get some smelling salts held under his nose for a few minutes and go back in and play, some games this happened more than a couple of times.

Reminded me of UW's S Caputo lining up in Bama's backfield after getting his bell rung. He clearly didn't know where he was. Scary stuff. I liked how the Oline points at him and he just points back.

Yup. Also wondered if we were intentionally trying to exploit his absence.

Never had it bad like Niemann. In college, long before helmet to helmet was not allowed (thought my jaw was broken). Two other times were less drastic hits and I gradually ended up losing all (clear) vision in both instances...for about 5 minutes and then it went away....when it started it was like I was looking through binoculars with the periphery being fuzzy in every direction but clear in the binocular space, with the fuzziness creeping in eventually to obstruct all vision (couldn't even read the scoreboard). To this day, I don't know if those were concussions. csb

If Ben is unable to play we're still solid with Bo playing.

If we actually were it sure was a good idea.
Read an article where Myers and KC talked about the Canzeri run plays called earlier in the game and they didn't block it correctly but figured it out and told coaches to call it again and they would get it this time. Both plays had WR engage the corner early. On first run, the FB kicked out the linebacker to create the lane, on second one, the FB sealed the corner. Once that FB block was made, it was nothing but green for Jordan. Likely that the backup safety got sucked up early on both plays (inexperience, bad read, maybe he had TE coverage on the play), but either way, the safety was no where to be found. While Canzeri does not have blinding speed, it has been fun to see a Iowa RB get to the hole quickly, see the green and kick in to another gear and run away from defenders and coast the last 10 yards. In fact Wadley and Daniels have both done this too.

Not at iowa. Guaranteed theyve been doing a more thorough process well before the NFL ever did
