He is taking an academic redshirt to make sure he basically gets his feet under him for the long haul. Not having the grades in HS and then going to a juco for a semester I think this is a great move to ensure he will be here for the future. Kirk says he is doing well in the classroom since enrolling.
plus if he turns out to be a stud, he probably won't be around the entire time anyways......Having him for the future is well and good but he would've made a big difference this year. With the green lbs and smallish DL, it's gonna be tough slowing opponents on the ground. Call me somewhat disappointed.

Are academic redshirts an option or a requirement? I guess what I'm asking is if Iowa had wanted him to play this fall could he have been eligible to do so ... or is their hand forced to redshirt him because he would be ineligible otherwise?
Perhaps he should have taken that Alabama offer. I mean heck, he probably would have graduated by now and still had eligibility left.

That is another reason why Wisconsin didnt offer him.
He should have three, he hasn't redshirted yet.So after he takes his academic red shirt, will he have two years left of playing eligibility?
I'm hoping for the best, but I have the same concern......Kinda wonder if he'll ever see the field
