Richard Nixon resigned 50 years ago today for his involvement in Watergate thus avoiding almost certain impeachment. His condemnation was almost universal from both his own Republican party and the Democratic party. What a contrast today's Republican party is from their party of 1974. Can you imagine the Republican party back then nominating a former president who was a convicted felon and one who tried to overturn the results of an election including an attempt to nullify 13.4 million votes in seven states with a fake electors scheme? They would have run him out of the party in an instant. All of which begs the question, what has happened to today's Republican party? Their continued embrace of Trump is truly mind boggling.
