CID is better without an urban casino

Suck it, "second city".
I'm surprised opponents were able to stall it as long as they did. Indians can usually do what they want on their own land. I don't know what the state gets other than income tax on winnings and sales tax on stuff they sell. Pretty sure Iowa Republicans will find a way for the state budget to come up short no matter what the casino produces.I don't know all the details, but Carter Lake, Iowa (on Omaha side of the Missouri River next to the Airport) got approved for a casino last night I believe. I guess it is technically Native American property. Pretty funny since Nebraska Legislation has denied multiple casino requests over the years. Now the casino still goes in and the state of Iowa should get the tax benefits. Hilarious.
Not if it's Indian property. As far as I know, anyhow.I don't know all the details, but Carter Lake, Iowa (on Omaha side of the Missouri River next to the Airport) got approved for a casino last night I believe. The state doesn't pay Medicare, you're thinking Medicaid, but they aren't going to cover that either. Those poor people deserve to die. Screw 'em.Casinos are basically just a way for the state to recover medicare money
Not when there is a governing board that tells you if and where you can build it.Meh, if CR got one I wouldn't have used it anyway. Although, I have heard many have good restaurants. Corbett had said earlier this summer that he doubted any of the 3 options would pass, so I'm not surprised.
My only beef with the licensing board voting against CR is the concept of 'cannibalization' from other casinos. That seems like a disingenuous reason in a nation that supports capitalism.
The analysis Corbett's group paid for? LOLWell sure, but if there is a chance that there will be a little more saturation, Gary wants to be the one doing it. His closest casino is in Clinton and presumably would not be "cannibalized" a whole lot by a casino in CR. Pretty sure Gary wouldn't mind putting another casino within a couple hundred feet of one of his as long as he owns the second casino. They're money machines.
I haven't bothered to follow all the numbers but did read that the analyses showed that a Cedar Rapids casino would have produced somewhere between $23 million and $47 million in "new" money. That indicates a fair number of degenerate gamblers in the Cedar Rapids area are not currently being served by existing casinos. In a truly capitalist society folks would be rushing in to fill the void. BUT, in Iowa, casinos are NOT a capitalist venture. The fix is in. Cedar Rapids gamblers are still required to drive 40 or 50 miles to the closest casino - Riverside or Tama. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission sees to it. I tried to find out what they're paid but it seems incredibly difficult to find that information.
All I know is the QC area has a ton of embezzlement cases from public and private companies alike, and 9 times out of 10, it seems to come back to gambling addiction.

Riverside was not their first choice for location. Who wouldn't want their casino on the corner of 80 and 380?
Corbett comes along and wants to change the rules that everybody else had to follow.
Now he thinks he can be governor and get the board removed and put his people in place so he can make his millions.
The Quad Cities has 3 casinos. One in Davenport,
one in Bettendorf, and one in Rock Island. Two of
them are located near Interstate Highways and are
land based. Bettendorf still has the riverboat casino
and may have the least customer traffic of the three.
They finally moved the casino boat in Bettendorf onto land, Lute. The Quad Cities has 3 casinos. One in Davenport,

So, if I have stock in Riverside this is good news, right?
How'd your wealth end up after Vegas, Art?
I was up $80. Son lost $100 even -- which is what I gave him to play with.
What game were you playing?
If CR was allowed to open, Tama, and Riverside would be out of business. These casinos are heavily supported by CR since we have no where to go. Put a casino in Cr, and there is no chance that Cr people are going to drive to these other casinos. The commission is trying to save all these casinos that are built in the wrong places.I wonder how many casinos Iowa can make profitable. For Cedar Rapids: Meskawki to the West, Isle of Capri to the Northwest, Riverside to the South. Not to mention the new one in Davenport and Prairie Meadows in Des Moines. Lots of gambling options out there. How many degenerates are there to flush their income and savings down the toilet?
So, if I have stock in Riverside this is good news, right?
Yes. You've mentioned before that you are from Burlington. Are you invested in Riverside through Catfishbend?
Yes, inherited from my dad, who was one of the first investors in Catfish Bend and Washington County Casino. My sister and I have been trying to cash out for a year now unsuccessfully. The latest was that they said they were waiting for this November Commission meeting and whether or not we would get our money and how much it would be depended on this meeting.
Hopefully this means when Riverside has their meeting in December they will approve letting us cash out.
It's not much money but it's annoying as hell.
Maybe CR voters shouldn't have voted down gaming 10 years ago. If CR had approved gaming they would have the casino and Riverside and Waterloo wouldn't exist.I think it sucks somw areas benefit greatly from a casino and others are denied.
I think all the kids in Lake Mills school district get a huge scholarship when they graduate and a gift card every year for school supplies,
In 2009 every graduating senior in Worth County That was there for junior and senior years got a little over $6000 in scholarships.
IMO all the casino profits should be gathered up and each citizen of Iowa should get a check.
The state shouldn’t play God unless it is fair.
