I'm obviously happy with a win, but this game today was just plain unfulfilling. Rust from the bye week? The coaching staff obviously has some things to work on this week, but in my opinion the offense is lacking the horsepower needed to get through the rest of the regular season unscathed.

I imagine the pundits and talking heads who watched the game will continue to question this team. Rightly so, IMO, this was not an impressive performance.

LOL. The Hawks were pussy-footing around with a crappy Maryland team. Do you disagree?

I do. Took a 31-7 lead. Took a breath and gave up a kick return to the best kick returner around. Tried to run out the clock and couldn't quite get it done. Punted, stopped them, and ran out the clock. Pretty simple. Workman-like win with some things to correct. Not bad.

They are going to question this team the rest of the season, regardless. They will always find something to question.

Just win...win in the B10CG and go from there. Next season when expectations will be placed a little higher going into it, don't tank like '10 That is going to be about the only way that Iowa will get respect (and perhaps the benefit of the doubt) when they have a sluggish performance.

First half Looked good. Put up 240 yards and defense held then to 70 yards. Second half we looked pretty uninspired. I don't know if Maryland made adjustments or Iowa let up, or both. But we got beat in the trenches in the 2nd half after pushing the around in the first.

This.....! Great comments. Sometimes up 21 at half is hard to keep the intensity motor going

Look, a win is a win, is a win. We may have been a bit rusty, and could have tried to open it up more, but we did what we needed to do to get the W. Enjoy it. Hopefully, CJ is even healthier next week. We played three backs who all contributed and scored. What's wrong with that??

I understand most of the opinions above, but to suggest this board be free of game-critique just because Iowa is undefeated?

In an effort to shut up some of these jerkoffs talking about the schedule, it would have been nice to see this team come out and assplow Maryland for 4 quarters.

Would a 4 qtr assplowing of Maryland REALLY have shut up some of those jerkoffs that are talking about the schedule?

It would ALSO be nice for people without a clue to post shit they don't have a clue on.

Explain. I wanna to hear your thoughts.

Actually, nevermind Hawksox. I just glanced at your recent post history which includes: namecalling, telling someone to STFU and even some dumbass statement about another poster's mom.

It's quite clear and you'd clearly have nothing of value to add.

Totally agree with you, PLUS
CJ appeared to survive without any significant physical setback (whew). As a matter of fact, I don't think any of the guys suffered anything major.

Maryland is improving and has nothing to lose. Dangerous combination. Today we were a little rusty off the bye and Maryland showed up to play. Nothing to get everyone's panties in a bunch over. We'll be ready for Indiana . Enjoy 8-0

Listen to the post game show and you'd understand why.

After getting ahead,f the object was to get the win without CJ having to overextend . As much was said after the game. A caller to the soundoff show also asked why certain plays weren't used and Eddie P. said CJ's health. Shame Iowa can't show dem critics but it is what is it.

It's not rust from the bye week when they go up 21-0 at half. Iowa didn't play their best 2nd half, especially on offense.

If CJ isn't healthy after sitting for 2 weeks, he isn't going to be next week. He is a shell of the guy we saw a month ago, and understandably our offense is in trouble without him at full strength. We've had a great run game, but that run game came with making teams pay 20 plus yards down the field with a healthy Beathard. This CJ is struggling in every phase, and will be our undoing at some point, sadly, but that's Football (as Old Kirk would say..........). We know what mediocre QB play does for Iowa Football, and the current CJ is mediocre unfortunately so......

In 2009 we almost lost to UNI, MSU and Arkansas State, blew the Northwestern game after the Stanzi injury and then lost a close one to OSU before scoring only 12 points against Minnesota.

Our reward then was a BCS spot that some thought we shouldn't get. All the national media will care about in this game is that it was a W. A carefully preserved victory that had zero drama, no major injuries and a very comfortable 16 point difference is a sign that Kirk's priorities are in the right place. OSU has been pushed to the limit by teams this weak and they're sitting comfortably at #1.

The idea that this was anything other than a resounding success is silly. No, the adrenaline junkies didn't get their 0-60 minute stomping but that really doesn't matter. Some of you moaners should try rooting for Nebraska in whichever of the 11:00 or 2:30 time slot Iowa isn't playing in. Perspective, people.

After seeing the Penn State-Maryland game last week and the Penn State-Illannoy score, from Saturday morning, compared to our score against Illannoy, I was thrilled to be up 31-7 in the 4th quarter.

I just talked to Kirk, he told me to let you know he's sorry the Hawks only won by 16 and didn't meet your expectations today. He'll try hard to do better next week.

In all honesty, the entire 2nd half and continuing to run into a brick wall was about keeping CJ upright. Nothing more and nothing less.
