Nonconf Schedule for 2022-2023: Oct 31 vs Truman State. Season Opener is Nov 7 vs Bethune Cookman. Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, FL Nov 25-26

I'd rather have Fran or whomever, schedule Iowa to play in tournaments that do not include home games against little sisters of the poor. Sorry, that's my opinion.
Fran is so scared to schedule home and home games against other P6 teams that it's almost comical.
There's lot's of big time schools that would improve Iowa's non-conference schedule but he insists in scheduling home games against teams that lurk in the bottom half of college basketball and does nothing to draw enough interest to even fill half of Carver and certainly doesn't peak the interest of Iowa's student body.
There's a reason that the Big Ten Network considers Iowa a 2nd tier school and put's them on their Big Ten plus channel multiple games a year and Fran obliges them by scheduling crap teams year in and year out.
You were saying?

Iowa's non conference schedule will likely be a top-25 schedule now.
Neutral against top-15 preseason Duke
Neutral against 2 of top-15 TCU, Clemson, or Cal
Home against Iowa St
ACC/B1G challenge
Gavitt Games (Big East)--likely road

That's 6 games against Power 6 programs by my count. 4 of which will likely not be in Carver.

Here's the timeline.

And it appears that we have all 11 nonconference games lined up right now.

The 11 nonconference games:

(Game 1) Nov 7: Bethune Cookman

(Game 2) Nov. 11: North Carolina A&T

(Game 3) Mid Nov: Gavitt Game vs Big East team is VERY LIKELY this year

(Game 4, 5, 6) Three Games--Iowa is contracted to play in the 2022 Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, FL, on Nov. 25-26, 2022 at Raider Arena on the campus of Northwest Florida State College. ONE PLELIMINARY GAME (vs Omaha) will be held on campus; the 2 other games Iowa will play will be in Niceville, FL. Game matchups will be announced later this summer. Iowa, TCU, Clemson, and Cal headline the tournament. Iowa also played in the 2016 Emerald Coast Classic, where they went 2-2 (Iowa beat Savannah State and UTRGV on campus; they then lost to Virginia by 33 and Memphis by 8 to finish 4th; Virginia was the champion, Providence, runner-up). (Game 7) Late November, ACC-Big Ten Challenge (likely at CHA)

(Game 8) Early Dec vs Iowa State, at CHA.

(Game 9 ): Dec 6, Jimmy V Classic, vs Duke (Madison Square Garden)

(Game 10) Dec 17: SEMO

(Game 11): Dec. 21: Eastern Illinois

Fran’s first instinct is to be overly cautious with non con scheduling. So this is a pretty clear message about what he thinks the team can do.

Looking at previous years, the Jimmy V classic is normally held around the time we’re also playing ISU and other B1G teams in early December. That will be a tough stretch if that doesn’t change.

It's a tough non-conference schedule for sure. For those that wanted a tough schedule, boy have you got it. It should toughen us up for the conference and we are going to REALLY need good depth this year. Should be a very fun and challenging season.

Duke is Duke, Iowa remains Iowa: Dog shit program for decades. We’ve done nothing in the off-season to be better next year; Our best player is gone with no one to fill that role. Duke’s starters will sit the second half as we look like a low-grade YMCA team. It won’t be close. Try to convince me otherwise, but a little thing called reality will enter the picture, and you’ll have no option but to agree with me.
Well Duke lost its top 5 scorers to draft and 6 of top 8 overall. No sure thing especially in 1st month of season a team comprised or playing primarily freshman will dominate every game. Reason Duke resorted to bringing in big guy Young from NW (avg 9 ppg) and were trying to get aj green.

2 years ago UK struggled big time playing primarily frosh because blue bloods are figuring out on top of top tier classes it’s important to have some experienced players mixed and why they are utilizing the portal more. Because believe it or not all top 25-50 players live up to their billing. Why Kansas last year was successful with hold overs and some transfers along with few true frosh. Was a really good mix. Not saying Iowa will win and Duke will be favored but it’s not a given Duke will win let alone in blowout fashion.

The starters are pretty much set and are experienced.

Ulis (but, will Bowen end up winning the starting job?)
Perkins
PMac
Kris
Filip

I think Payton is going to have a super sophomore year.

We know what we have in Connor. Dix should be cleared to play.

If our other 2 scholarship players, Riley and Josh, step up like they are capable, things could get interesting.

Clemson Tigers
  • 2021-2022: 17-16, 8-12 in the ACC (10th)
  • Departures: David Collins (10.3 ppg., 6.9 rpg., 38% 3pt.) and Naz Bohannon (5.7 ppg., 4.1 rpg.) exhausted their eligibility; Al-Amir Dawes (11.3 ppg., 39.8% 3pt.) transferred to Seton Hall and Nick Honor (7.7 ppg.) transferred to Missouri
  • Graduate taking an extra year: Hunter Tyson
  • Major Additions: 6-3 top 70 recruit Dillon Hunter, 6-2 Boston College transfer Brevin Galloway (8.3 ppg.), 6-4 4 star recruit R.J. Godrey
  • Current Projection: 9th in the ACC; NIT

Brad Brownell was once again hit with unexpected losses in the offseason, which in this case actually included players that were receiving regular playing time (although both were in and out of the starting lineup). Still, Chase Hunter improved significantly last season and should form a solid backcourt with his brother Dillon, and P.J. Hall should be back to full strength after playing with a foot injury almost all of last season. Overall, the Tigers may be very similar to what they were a year ago, but there could be diminishing returns with the conference as a whole being much stronger. At this point, Brad Brownell is one of several ACC coaches that should probably be concerned about whether or not there will be a next season.

6pm start time vs Clemson. Football game vs Nebraska at 3pm that day. Full day of Iowa athletics. Hopefully KF will do us a favor and put them away early and not hang around late into the game so we can don't miss the start of the bball game.

Absolute best time of the year….Hawkeye football and basketball on the same day!

for some reason we like to allow Nebby to hang around

Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but was digging through the B1G schedule releases today and was curious what other's around the B1G have done in terms of non-con scheduling. Just noting the games that seemed interesting to me--sure I missed a few good ones as no one has released an official schedule at this point. This obviously doesn't include ACC challenge and Gavitt.

Weirdly, a friend of mine from HS played baseball at NC A&T.
