Point guard Bryan Greenlee has scheduled a September 15th official visit to Iowa.

Here is his Rivals profile:

As you can see, Iowa is his only Power 5 offer.

Thoughts?

I don't understand why one or more of our new pg offers doesn't pull the trigger. We are the best offer they have on the table. Are they being told they have to visit first before they can commit? Again, my ignorance is showing.

This is kinda confusing to me. Why is he not rated? I wonder which coach was watching him and convinced Fran to offer?

Iowa must really like him since its an official visit; Iowa is paying for all the expenses and as you can see, he is coming from Florida and that's not a cheap flight. I am sure his parents are tagging along, too. So, we are talking about 3 airline tickets, taxi expense (and other transportation costs), a couple hotel rooms for a few nights, football tickets, meals for the 3 days, plus the coaches' time.

Maybe they are each waiting to see if any more offers come before signing? Not sure when most programs do any sort of "final" evaluations/offers, but with signing day not until November it's not out of the question that some other high major/major programs lose out on their top guys and offer these guys like Iowa has done.

This guy has an offer from Yale so he must be a very good student....probably then a good citizen.

I’ve read comments from a coach about his playing abilities that were very positive...I think Fran and staff are pretty good on judging talent.

I don't see why a kid waiting until after a visit to commit is hard to understand. Best offer on paper isn't always the best offer for a kid. Let him visit before the consternation.

Yeah I don't really see this as an issue. I would think Iowa WANTS a player to visit campus before committing. I know on the FB side, KF is pretty much that way. I don't know if Iowa has prioritized the guys they have offered, but they must like all 3 to have offered them now.

I can't remember the recruit but it was a juco PG and he behaved like a douche during his visit. Might have been during Alford tenure. He had an offer up until his visit.

Collins is supposed to be visiting this month. Unofficially. Not sure when or if it already has happened.

All three of these guys have numerous offers. That would tell me they must have something to their game.

I believe that the evaluation periods are over. So maybe we want to get them all on campus for a weekend and get a better judge of who they are as people, and if they like the campus. On the former, Fran does look for upstanding character as part of his evaluation. Most do comment that they really like Iowa City.

The best player of the Fran era was non-rated. Of course some of the others who transferred immediately were also non-rated.

If he comes for a year and proves to be a serviceable player, great; if not, he most likely transfers out.

The reality is that all 2019 PGs are signing up for third string duty their freshman year, and a dog fight for backup their sophomore year. That’s not that enticing, and probably will take a kid who has some stones to step up for the challenge.

So if he has a scholarship offer and is officially visiting, there really wouldn't be a reason not to commit on the visit or soon after.

Thats one way to look at it.

Another way would be to see a team with no one at pg who can penetrate or defend and one that has been very unsuccessful trying to win without those elements.

If im a player that fills those needs I see allot of PT for myself right away.

Im not sure if any of these guys are good enough to do those things at the big ten level but I like Collins video allot.

I agree with your sentiment, but a recruit would be staring down the pipe of the guy who led the team in minutes and the coach’s son.

If there was a 4 star guy, yeah; but we are obviously taking a bit of a calculated gamble here, and I’m okay with it.

Taxi expense?

Football tickets?

meals for 3 days?

LMAO!

How can someone know so little about official visits?

Excellent point. All 3 of these recruits fill a void that I believe needs at least 2 more players than we have now currently on the roster to satisfy our team Balance.

Iowa is hardly such a grand offer that a recruit would commit sight unseen.
Just because they're the only P5 offer now doesn't tell the entire story.

Easy answer is that Iowa hoops is not good. Kids want to win not compete with Rutgers and IL for bottom 3 finish. It's telling kids literally with no better or even close to P5 offers still waffle on committing.

So if he has a scholarship offer and is officially visiting, there really wouldn't be a reason not to commit on the visit or soon after.

Collins is visiting the week after, what happens if Greenlee commits during the visit or shortly after. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Id go ahead and take both.

There are plenty of ways to open up spots latter.

Good idea. And maybe that is the plan...? We certainly could use a more balanced team. Fran let it get too out of wack. Obviously.

We need to be more guard heavy, than bigs heavy. College basketball is won with more guards/swings than bigs.. Right now it is 7-5 forwards to guards. And that is with Maishe at a guard spot. But he is our most versatile player.

Having some swing players would help too. Several would be good, as in the majority of our team... Right now we have Joe and Maishe. Probably could throw Connor in that group too. Just based on his size. Not sure about his inside game, and he could use a better outside shot. But he can pass.

Im not sure just being a "P5" school holds as much allure in basketball as it does in football.

hooper, do you like any of the three? Do you have a preference?
I have watched the video highlights and have not seen any in person so I know nothing really. But I like what I see and I like them in the order of the visits. I think Toussaint gives us what we don’t have so I suppose I like him the best. I don’t think he is a good shooter from outside the arc and he is small. But he is quick and tough. Sure knows how to use that off hand to create space and get into the lane to create opportunities. Looks like some toughness to his game and he can push it. Has some habits that will need attention such as shooting form, high dribble and dribbling away from his body. But all that stuff is correctable. Big question on the visit is how the vibe is between him and other players. I predict he is our guy, but heck I don’t know. I like the other kids too.

Totally agree.

Im just the opposite. Tousaints handle looks extremely spotty to me and doesn't have his steps together to be much of a finisher either. Maybe hes good on defense. Collins looks much smoother, better ballhandler, significantly better finisher, better end to end and a better shooter.

Geenlee looks like more of a shooting guard so id take him with either.
