I'd expect more from a law and order kind of state. I heard this on the radio today. NC has a far right wing party problem due to some incredible gerrymandering efforts. NC could very well go blue in the 2016 Presidential election, yet send and overwhelming number of Republican House members back to DC. There is more affluence growing around Charlotte, and a lot of retirees who aren't nearly as red as the state portrays itself.

Actually the law, as stupid as it is, does not prevent same sex, interracial marriage, marriage for divorced people, or any other form of marriage between two living consenting adults. It will make it more difficult but not impossible for the people to marry which IMHO is why the law would be overturned in the courts.

I guess you went with the interracial angle over the divorce angle because it sounds better.

I was just in Italy so I have the renaissance on my mind. During that time, beauty was thought to be a supream value as the conduit that would lead the soul to the divine message. So keeping that in mind, might a NC registrar refuse to marry ugly people for spiritual reasons?

I'm just trying to find a silver lining.
