In some ways getting impeached is the best thing that could happen to Donald Trump. Otherwise people would be paying attention to his disastrous foreign policy. That's if you consider flattering dictators around the world, and skipping around the DMZ holding the hand of Kim Jong Un foreign policy.
This is serious stuff, and there is no indication that this administration is capable of handling a more aggressive stance from North Korea. And, as relations with China degrade there is no impetus for them to exert control over North Korea. The more discord the better for them at this point.
Tweeting is not foreign policy. Photo ops are not foreign policy.

This isn’t related to a Trump foreign policy, it’s the same thing that happened to Obama and W. NK is run by a dumbass bigger than ours.

Did they hold hands at the DMZ and give NK the legitimacy they crave? Did either of those presidents weaken our commitment to South Korea?
This is what happens when a failed, bankrupt carnival barker is put in charge. This also happens with a weak foreign policy team and gutted State Department.

So no Nobel Prize?

NO

You start a thread to bash his foreign policy based on NK? How was that going under Obama?

Look, he’s got enough foreign policy blunders you can criticize him for. If you’re going to use NK, don’t forget to include all the other Presidents. Just saying

I don’t blame Trump for failing here. Every president since Ike has struggled with this. Where I blame him is his unilateral decision to meet multiple times with Kim without and concrete promises or conditions. Kim got to stand as an equal besides the POTUS. Trump got nothing and acted like he got everything.

Art of the Deal LOL

As mentioned, no president has ever given any leader NK the legitimacy of a personal meeting. That was a huge give, and what did Trump get in return? Nothing.
You also mistake lack of success, as failure. All presidents have had to deal with NK since Truman. It requires vigilance, consistency, and coordination. Trump has done nothing except tweet out a big win. He's driven a wedge into US / SK relations. He's helped to create a rift between critical regional allies SK and Japan. He's abandoned multi-lateral talks for a bromance. He has given China and Russia reasons to go from working with the US, to actively working to help NK avoid sanctions.
Trump is monumentally overmatched for this job.

I don't fault Trump, or any leader, for trying to achieve a diplomatic solution to a problem. There's no harm in trying to have a rational conversation with other leaders. However, it's not a good idea to say that the problem was solved when it wasn't really solved. That's just delusional.

None of that shit matters.
It’s like bitching about what Becky wore to the party.
How does NK cash in this ‘legitmacy’ you perceive?

Nothing has changed. We borrow billions (with the eternal non-productive carrying cost of that debt) to ‘protect’ one of the richest nations in the world from one of the poorest, which has half their population.

And you’re sold on the idea that is necessary.
Dope.

Isn’t our presence in South Korea about more than just keeping NK at bay?

If any of you actually believed a Trump tweet, that's on you. Just like when he meets with China and brags about winning a trade deal. DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING HE SAYS...HE LIES CONSTANTLY...and his cult takes the bait everytime

I thought Trump and Kim Jong Un were in love (nttiawwt)? This is not how lovers act.

So what did Trump actually give NK? Nothing. No sanctions relief, no additional food aid. Nothing.

Efforts do not appear to have been successful, so no harm done.

It's not like NK's reputation has been elevated in any way from Trump's efforts.

the most powerful man in the world shook the hand of the world’s worst despot, handing him a diplomatic coup. That in and of itself is of incredible value. Then there’s the harm that has been inflicted on our relationships with our allies has been severely damaged in the region. Trump has cut back drastically on our joint exercises there, demanded they dramatically up how much they pay for our troops.

you’re kidding yourself if you think NKs hasn’t been elevated by all this.
