IIRC the death by dogs thing turned out to be a hoax. But, yeah, I'd rather die an instant death by anti-aircraft fire than be agonizingly ripped apart by a pack of ravenous dogs.

This isn't confirmed, like the ripped apart by dogs rumor a few years ago. It might actually be better for Kim Jong Un at this time to allow rampant speculation. Supposedly the only group that can threaten his rule is senior military members. He's got the party leadership in his pocket.
It doesn't smack of stability in any case. He's nuts, but, if there is a coup that country will come apart at the seams. Probably the only reason China tolerates him. Having him in power keeps millions of refugees from attempting to cross into China.

I'm trying to run through various scenarios of how having a 20mm shell hit you at several thousand KPH could be quick and painless, and I can only come up with two. The first involves being hooded, and having it completely sever your head instantly. The second involves being dead before it happens.
