Running as a "No Party" candidate:
Chris Hoffman, who has served on the North Liberty City Council since 2007, has announced his candidacy to run for a vacant seat on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.
Hoffman said in a Monday email that he is running as a No Party candidate in the Jan. 19 special election. The election was scheduled earlier this month to fill the seat of Terrence Neuzil, who resigned from the Board of Supervisors last month to take a job in Michigan.
Hoffman has served two terms on the North Liberty City Council and was elected in November to a third four-year term.
Hoffman received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Iowa State University, has been living in North Liberty since 2002 and is a business developer with Moxie Solar.
The county board has long consisted entirely of Democrats — outside of the roughly two years that Republican Supervisor John Etheredge served from 2013-2015 — Hoffman said on his campaign website that the board needs to be nonpartisan.
“The issues that traditionally define Republicans and Democrats have no place in county politics. You will not find those types of discussions or decisions being made at the county level. I think we need to leave partisanship at the door,” he said on his website. “I hope you will agree that what is needed at the county level is just good common sense representation.”
Members of the Johnson County Democrats and Johnson County Republicans will host conventions this month to nominate their respective candidates.
