North West Junior High School was cleared to resume classes after a bomb threat Thursday morning forced evacuation of the building.
The school in Coralville was evacuated briefly Thursday morning after the report of a bomb threat, Superintendent Matt Degner said in an email to families sent at 9:24 a.m. Students and staff evacuated the building and briefly relocated to the Coralville Recreation Center.
Several teachers and staff at the school received an email threat of an explosive device in the school Thursday morning, according to Coralville Police Chief Shane Kron.

The school called police at 8:40 a.m., and evacuated to allow officers, and an explosive detection K9 from the University of Iowa Police Department, to quickly search the building. By 10 a.m. the check was completed and students were able to return to class. No explosive devices were located, Kron said.
The Iowa City Community School District — which includes North West Junior High — is working closely with the Coralville Police Department and first responders were on the scene, Degner said in his email. The threat remains under investigation by the police.
