Northern Iowa/ Kansas 2010

I well remember watching UNI upset Kansas, and I can still see Ali firing up that long, long three that put the nail in the Jayhawks. What a gutty performance by the Panthers and Ali. It was, IMHO, a great moment for the entire state of Iowa, not just the Panthers. What a game.

Yes, that win was outstanding for the entire state.

Another fun UNI NCAA win was in 1990 against #3 Missouri led by Iowa natives Jason Reece, Troy Muillenberg, and the big 3 by Des Moines native Maurice Newby.
I was at the NCAA wrestling tournament and we watched the game between sessions but couldn't watch the ending. What was crazy wasit seemed like half the arena had the game on their phones and as the clock ticked down all of the ISU, UNI and Iowa fans started chanting U.N.I, U.N.I,. I remember thinking if that had been ISU none of us Hawk fans would have been chanting but for UNI we all came together! In reality it was mostly Hawk fans cuz ISU was already in decline at that time and we won the title that year! Unfortunately I think that was our last year until we were ready to take back the title this year.........

Great story. That game made me a UNI hoops fan for life. I never cared much about them before. Of course, like most on this board, I'm all about Iowa Hawkeye hoops the most.

It's interesting that Nick Nurse was a graduate assistant that year after a successful playing career at UNI.

Watching the panthers blow a 12 point lead with 30 seconds left was like watching a slow motion train wreck. You could hardly believe what you were seeing.
I watch every UNI game I can. I have watched that ending several times and still can't believe it. I didn't sleep that after UNI blew that game. Iowa has had several heartbreaking NCAA losses over the years, but nothing like that.

I was a sophomore at UNI living in the dorms watching that game. What an incredible day. I cannot remember how many cases of beer we drank that day, but it was insane.

Then....unfortunately uni pulled one of the biggest blunders in ncaa history with the epic meltdown against Texas a&m a few years ago

March 20, 2016.

#11 seed UNI had a 12 point lead (69-57) with 36.3 seconds left. UNI had no timeouts left.

#3 seed Texas A&M goes on an incredible 14-2 run in those 36 seconds to send the game to overtime (game is tied at 71 at the end of regulation).

Texas A&M ends up winning in double OT, 92-88.

Watch: ;)

I lived in the UNI dorms myself - The Towers during my freshmen & sophomore years. Graduated earlier than you though.

Loved my time at UNI.
