Football team playing for conference title (say what you will about the competition), MBB just beat a top 5 team by double digits. I'll take what Iowa has going on in WBB, but ISU is still solid there as well.

The B12 Champion auto bye needs to be reevaluated. Neither ISU or ASU deserve one.

That said, I'm a little envious. Go ASU.

Iowa State is not stuck in the dinosaur age and doesn’t construct a basketball roster that looks like it was handpicked from the sales team at J Crew or the Pottery Barn.

For some reason, a good chunk of the Iowa fan base is petrified of change because of the ghosts of Todd Lickliter and Frank Lauterbur, so mediocrity is embraced and even celebrated. Hence the staleness and futility of both programs.

Not that hard to figure out.

The fan base has no control over such things.

marxists are jealous of everything.....

Also, yeah I'm a little jealous but it's just unfortunate timing. They will always get to say they made the playoffs before Iowa but if it had been 12 teams for the last 20 years we would have been in it a few times already.

Plus, I know many won't admit it but they have a really good football team this year. Go ASU.

It goes in cycles.

No one was envying Iowa State during the Prohm years (i.e.).

ISU has always spent a lot on men’s basketball roster. Since Tim Floyd showed up. They’ve had bag men. Now it’s legal. Iowa hasn’t had the consistent top talent roster since Ray Thompson. Iowa will put a really talented roster together once every three years or so. But not year in and out anymore.
It’s time for Fran to accept the Gold Watch. The Drake coach is someone to look at.

Football: no reason to have jealousy.
Basketball: is a completely different story. They play fantastic defense. They can win the national title. they have dudes. Most of all they have guards. Gilbert may be the best finishing guard I've seen or at least seen in a long time. He's already completed more difficult finishes at the rim in Maui and last night than I've seen in the last 20 years (maybe more) from a guard at iowa.

I kinda hope the Clones win by thirty Saturday night.

And miss finishing in the top twelve of the playoffs by about .01 points.

The meltdown would be just slightly entertaining. 🤭

Iowa state will always be in the mix for the CFB playoff because their conference has no super power money schools.

On the other hand, I don’t see how Iowa ever makes it. Unless they get some sweet schedule where they avoid everybody good but one team. Which is what they got this year and didn’t come close.

Basketball is the sport where a few million can make a big difference in NIL. Football you probably need $20-$25 million.

Ohio state needed $20MM to win 4th place in the Big 18.

Yeah, they have some control. ADs tend to take notice of half-empty arenas and stadiums that would normally be packed.
That's just not going to happen. 70,000 people had a fricking blast Friday night. That's not going to change. It has nothing to do with accepting mediocrity. It's about entertainment.

Not at all jealous. They’re having a good run right now. We’ve had good runs too. These things are cyclical. Even Kansas once had a “magical” season in football, only to fall back to Earth within a year or two. The same will happen to Iowa State and every other program not named Alabama, Ohio State, etc.

Same with basketball. Let them enjoy their moment in the sun.

I don’t see little bro beating ASU so they won’t be getting into the playoffs this year. We’ll see if they can make the playoffs before us, but I don’t see that happening either. So no jealousy there.

I am a little jealous of their basketball success and that Hilton “magic” though.

This is the problem, we'll likely finish around 4-6th in the new Big 10 format for the next handful of years and spend late December just rooting for other Big 10 schools simply due to conference affiliation. How is this better for the fans in any way?

@torbee get in here and talk about a new arena downtown!

This thread could use it, however since no one is around here to argue with you anymore about it, I guess it’s moot.
