7 days rest, title on the line, home court advantage, 4 seniors, players only meeting while Wisconsin got ran out of the gym against MSU, played two games during our off stretch, on the road, and every excuse to be tired..

Things may be even worse than they appear

This is a good observation. I'd add the the students and the fans showed up only to have Fran and the boys cower in the corner.

The writing has been on the wall for weeks. Even their last couple of wins were grind em out games against bad teams.

I honestly would not pick them to win again.

Oh, it's fine. It's just another game. Woody and Uthoff said they're fine.

Yep, the handwriting has been on the wall the entire month. They have played like garbage for a month. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up as fatigue, but they are just bad right now. They are out of sync on both ends of the floor. Only 2 guys on the team give them remotely a chance of scoring some buckets. The bench is awful right now. Not only are they not scoring they are brutal defensively. I haven't seen too many players play worse defense than Uhl and Ellingson. They are always out of position.

I'll be very surprised if they win another game, and I'm not just talking regular conference season.

Yup, bad slump. Not a good showing to whiz down their leg like that on the home floor when they still had a title shot.
Will it feel like a bigger kick in the nads when they lose to indy at home? Or, has the acceptance of the fall already set in.

Jok and Clemmons? Clemmons has been our second best scoring option.

If we keep this up we can see who wins the Iowa Most Disappointing Season Award.
Us or ISU?
'clones still more disappointing given their pre-season hype.
But right now, even as choppy as their play has been, they have a much better shot at making an NCAA tourney run.
The Hawks may win 1 game, but I have a hard time seeing more than that.

Simple really. Missing shots and turning the ball over isn't working on offense.
Counting on the other team to miss shots isn't working any more on defense.

This team is now what we thought they would be at the beginning of the year.

No more wins on the schedule.

Neither Iowa or ISU has a bench that they can count on for any offensive firepower. Whatever the cause for that is, lack of recruiting or player development, it is what it is.

We have two point guards on the floor. Then when they get bagged out the ball gets turned over. We have no half court offense. We have no bench. We dribble and don't pass. Woody was the only guy playing out there tonight. Point guards watch as JOK dribbles the ball into heavy traffic. I can see why we can't win.

Our two guards are good at driving it to the hoop, but they need to be able to hit from the perimeter when they are open, and teams are leaving them open.

Who said they got any rest...? Fran probably worked them to the bone.

Uthoff and Jok are the only scoring options to explode. Clemmons can chip in some games. MG and Woody have been pretty much worthless offensively in most of our recent games.

A few people on here were going nuts early in the season, calling MG one of the better PG in the country, and maybe the best in the B1G. Some of us were trying to warn people about small sample sizes. It's like getting carried away when a lifetime hitter of .220, hits .400 in Apr and everyone thinks the player has become a great hitter that year. Nope, it just means he's going to hit crappy in May-Sep to revert back to somewhere near the mean.

If the Hawks are still tired after the week off they had, I don't imagine playing 2 games in the next 3 days is going to help them any.

I understand the team is struggling right now, What I don't understand is how many fans feel that after all his years of coaching basketball that Fran has no grasp on how hard he should or shouldn't work his players. He is not dumb, He has a very solid, Experienced staff surrounding him, I think they know if the team has been pushed too hard and is mentally and physically exhausted. In the game vs Wisconsin I thought the team had energy, So I myself don't buy the "tired" excuse. I think overall they just need to start shooting the ball better and get some confidence back.

I agree for the most part except for when Woody couldn't walk straight the last 4 minutes. So it Fran really did know how much they can handle then I'm pissed he didn't use his timeouts to get U back in the game and Woody three nice long timeout breaks

Early season MikeG 50% FG shooting, 40% from 3pt line was statistical aberration and we are seeing return to his career averages, which means an extended period of 30% type FG shooting.

I think MikeG was capable of being a decent scorer at college level, but he has the yips. His shot is broken. All we needed out of MikeG was a guy that could hit an open jump shot and make FTs..something he could do quite well in HS.

Woody is playing great as 1-dimensional rebounder/defender, Clemmons is great as limited scorer/defensive guy, Gesell is great as a distributor...problem is teams have figured out you don't have to guard those guys very closely.

A very depressing thread. Let's see how they do today @ OSU and get some mojo back. All is not lost.

It is depressing but it's also reality right now! Hoping like heck we can put it back together starting today!
