Don’t think he qualifies. Need to miss two years due to injury to qualify or get injured within the first 4 games and you haven’t previously redshirted. This is just like Boone Meyers or Ike Boeteger situation.
I feel terrible for Aaron. I wish him a speedy recovery. Hopefully he can find some solace helping his fellow Hawkeye brothers as he's rehabbing.

Last spring it was Snyder this spring Mends he's looking at min of 6 months sounds like this was a no contact tear likely no other damage to knee.At 39 I was making good cuts and knee felt great after 6 months If he cannot get waiver maybe Nov he can come back but by that time the lbs will likely have solid starters.Man what a devastating injury for the guy
Tough break as Mends has paid his dues and evidently earned the starting job he was in line for. Was looking forward to watching him this year. Humble young man with promise we may never see realized on the field. But if there was going to be a crappy injury and a “next man in” situation coming out of spring, this was the position to have it this year. 20 linebackers on scholarship and no one knows what to expect out of any of them.
Last year Iowa lost its only truly proven DB (Snyder) in the spring game, and we as fans entered the year thinking Manny Rugamba was going to have to lock things down. Then a Josh Jackson becomes arguably one of the greatest defenders to ever wear the Tigerhawk. As Iowa fans we just cross our fingers and hope another All-American will rise from the fold.

NCAA needs to re visit and give back to the kids. If it is about "student-athletes" Aaron should have a chance and choice to come back for another year to continue his education and extra curricular activities.

I Completely ****in jinxed him by making a stink about him deserving to start. I wish Cytwins was here right now I would Bobby Bouche him ! Im glad he's a lot more mentally tough than me and will not fall apart like I would.
I hope Colbert works his way into the spot. He seemed to be on the field quiet a bit. Losing Mends makes missing on Honas seem that much worse.
