A number of polls lately show Democrats even with or even slightly ahead of Republicans when Americans are asked about party control of Congress. A new survey by Fox News points to one reason for that: More women now prefer Democrats.
According to the Fox News poll, if voting took place today, 41 percent of registered voters would back the Democratic candidate in their House district and 41 percent would back the Republican. In earlier Fox News polling, Republicans had a three-point advantage in July and June, and a seven-point edge in May.
What’s changed? In May, women preferred Republican candidates by one percentage point. In the latest poll, they prefer Democrats by six percentage points.
Pollster Daron Shaw tells Fox News that he thinks disapproval of the Supreme Court is a big factor. In June, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion after almost 50 years.
